I have a sleep test tonight for my drivers licence. The instructions says no sugary drinks after breakfast. I forgot that and ate desert plus drank 500ml iced tea at 10 am, is it going to affect the results? I will go to sleep between 8 and 11pm

Because next appointment is like 4 months.

Sorry I can’t offer any advice, but I’m really curious to know why getting a drivers license requires a sleep test. Wouldn’t a staying wide awake test be better?

Edit: for those who also don’t know, turns out sleep apnea and other medical conditions can cause excessive daytime tiredness, exempting you from being medically fit to drive. You learn something new every day :)

That’s so random considering there are so many conditions (having young kids, going through menopause, ME, having radiation therapy, etc) that can make you excessively tired.

        Truckers.

If you have sleep apnea, you can still drive trucks, but you have to use a CPAP when you sleep so you don’t kill people.

Same reason someone who needs glasses, have to wear glasses to drive.

It’s not “random” you just didn’t think of it yourself or ask a question.

You just assumed that it was fucking “random” because you didn’t know the answer. That’s not how fucking life works, if you ask questions you’ll find out almost nothing is “random” it’s just shit you’re too lazy to learn about

Truckers can’t have ME etc.? It’s totally random, my dude.

          Also, consider therapy.

            Truckers can’t have ME etc.?

            What?

Sleep apnea is like bad vision…

It doesn’t mean you can’t drive trucks, it means you need to take basic steps for everyone’s safety…

How are you not understanding this?

Do you just call anything you don’t understand “random” and then get upset when people tell you there’s a reason?

That’s how trump lives his life, don’t be like trump

The irony of accusing someone for behaving like trump as you go off on them on the internet due to your own misinterpretation is really something else.

Narcolepsy is also under-diagnosed. The main symptom is excessive daytime sleepiness but lots of people (myself included) go years thinking they just like caffeine more than most people. It’s also an autoimmune disease that’s often triggered by a viral infection, so I’m expecting statistics to show an increase in narcolepsy symptoms post-COVID.

The real sleep experts are the ones conducting the tests. Call them and ask. They may consider 10am just a late breakfast, or they may adjust the expected results a couple of hours or points or whatever. Either way it’s better to know than to worry, and possibly recieve unreliable results.

It’s best to be honest when it comes to medical care and operating heavy equipment.

(Not a doctor, definitely not YOUR anything)

Does it say no sugar or no caffeine?

A bunch of stuff in this post piqued my attention. TIL some departments of transportation will require sleep apnea testing for a commercial driver’s license if the person meets certain criteria including being overweight.

Anyway I also did a decently deep dive into sleep study instructions like this one from The Cleveland Clinic I don’t see anything about sugary beverages in any of them. What I do see is a few things about alcohol and a looooot of stuff about caffeine. And I know if you were just listed coke, iced tea, lattes, monsters, etc your first thought might be sugar even though they’re all caffeinated too.

Either way you’re probably screwed because iced tea is also caffeinated but double check the specific instructions the place doing your sleep study gave you and their cutoff time because I’m seeing a bunch of different things on specific cutoff time, and I suspect it has to do with the clinic’s daily scheduled ‘bedtime routine’ timetable. Overall though it’s not so much of whether or not they’ll let you take it as much as there being good odds you just fail it.

I mean, it’s probably fine. There’s usually some wiggle room in the testing criteria because they assume people will lie a certain amount

I’d take the test, and tell them after. 4 months sounds like a long time

But obviously, this isn’t medical advice

What’s “breakfast”? I have to assume if it was a big deal they would be waaay more specific than that.

If you think being a dick behind an anonymous internet comment is somehow constructive or going to change the behavior of someone who already admitted they made a mistake and were asking for help, I’ve got a bridge to sell you. All you’ve done is encourage this person not to speak to the next time they make a mistake.

Like holy shit dawg, I hope you don’t treat people like this in your day-to-day life.

I really am being a complete dick. I’m very sorry OP. I only have myself to blame for what I wrote. I could have chosen to not say anything at all or something actually helpful. I hope everything goes well for you.
