    The top comment there is a good reading of the situation. Trump’s twitter post is probably pure PR and is not indicative of his interpretation. He is just posting shit that makes him look good.

      No doubt about that, but whether the admin actually understands what China is saying is also questionable. It seems like there’s very little effort made to genuinely listen to adversaries. The US is in a habit of dictating terms to everyone, and the understanding that other countries can now push back is only starting to develop.

    As someone who is still very sceptical of China’s foreign policy, nothing irks me more than them “trying to portray the US as allies”. Thankfully the laws of motion of imperialism dictate that no such alliance can actually be made, so China will still have to fulfil their anti-hegemonic role for a while.
