Like the Romans used to drink from lead cups. Something like that.

I found kind of a suitable replacement. The energy drink I like the most is a very cheap lemon-soda energy with sweeteners instead of sugar (like 0,39€ per 330ml can). And instead of buying that, I went for basically the same, ie. lemon soda with zero sugar, just without the caffeine. It’s not a 1:1 replacement, sadly - I’m sure I’d like the taste of the energy more - but it’s close enough and only slightly more expensive at 0,59€ or 0,69€ for the same size
For me, the best energy drink has always been black coffee. Hot or iced. Everything else is a substitute.
As soon as the leaves change I’m back to tea and coffee, but when it’s hot it just isn’t refreshing the same way. I’ll make iced coffee and even then there’s something about it which doesn’t quite fit my brain hole. Like I taste coffee, and I get the cozy nesting chemicals, but summer is not cozy. It’s hot and uncomfortable. And sunburn. That’s when I want a nice cold glass of beer, or chemically flavored, carbonated caffeine drink.
One thing I have started doing is snacking on beans. Apparently each bean has like 6-10mg of caffeine and I think they are tasty.
I’ve never liked the taste and despise the smell of it. But good thing it’s working for you. At least you’re rid of the sugars
Pommac comes pretty close as well but it’s not exactly cheap and it’s probably hard to find outside of the nordic countries. It’s like “adult soda” - in graduation parties, weddings and such it’s often served as the non-alcohol substitute for sparkling wine.
Sounds interesting. What’s it taste like? Reminds me of pear-flavoured soda I’d find in Russian supermarkets around here. Not sure what it’s called
Difficult to describe. Remotely similar to Red Bull but less bitter, maybe more bubbly. A sweet sparkling wine/cider-like. Sophisticated. Something a kid would drink if served but would likely never pick themselves.
