The problem is the power tripping, transphobic assholes who run it. “Supporting Lemmy development” is directly paying those assholes, Nutomic and Dessalines, regardless of how much they want to obfuscate and mislead what actually happens to “Lemmy development” funds. It literally pays Dessalines to have the free time to make a hundred shitty mod actions per day.
Support piefed instead. It’s fine for the Lemmy devs to have their opinions, but if they are going to be assholes about it then they can deal with the fallout. I’ve been around open source communities long enough to know that this quickly becomes a sunk cost fallacy, and the fediverse will be better off ripping off this bandaid as soon as possible.

Yeah it’s all good. I appreciate the check in. I am remarried and am like pretty important in my field. That’s what I’m trying to say here - make a good life and this shit seems trivial. Don’t make someone else into a foundation of your ego. This isn’t some manoshpere shit, just acknowledging that adversity is optional growth.
I am way more upset about my dog who died ten months ago than anything involving my ex wife. If anything I’d like to take a moment to bring his life into our collective experience and spend a moment appreciating how much of a good boy he was until the very end.
Because real life isn’t a movie filled with people standing by to assist the main character in the third act. People are generally shit, and you are the only person who actually cares about you. It sucks to learn this particular lesson in such a brutal way, but it’s an important lesson nonetheless. Move on and make this a footnote in your success story.

I actually interviewed for a data science role with this company a couple years ago. They were definitely cagey about what the actual product was for the initial screenings and then when they finally opened up about the role and …duties… of poop data scientist, it was actually pretty funny.

I joined Lemmy with every intention to contribute and make a significant donation as well. But after getting banned and dogpiled for daring to say things like “Russia shot down a civilian airplane” and “the ML theory you are referencing does say what you claim it says,” I’m also here to say the fediverse will be better without cringe keyboard warriors like Dessalines and transphobes like Nutomic being involved with it. There are other projects to support.
