“Cummins says it “has seen no evidence that anyone acted in bad faith and does not admit wrongdoing.””
So either you are evil or obnoxiously stupid, but it’s probably both - hence the deranged idea of a car.

Last I’d heard, the EPA was still calculating these emissions on a per gallon of fuel basis instead of the only one that makes sense, per mile, ignoring the fact a gallon of diesel is capable of carrying a vehicle further, producing fewer emissions overall. They’re also directly responsible for making US cars getting larger and larger thanks to poorly written rules that essentially penalize smaller vehicles.

So either the EPA is evil or just obnoxiously stupid at this point.

Recently, research from an international team spanning six nations argued that new diesel cars emit less pollution than gasoline cars. The study was published in the journal Scientific Reports. Diesel is a much cleaner fuel than it was previously, and modern diesel engines are much better equipped with filtration systems to prevent excessive pollution. The European Union promoted diesel as a more environmentally friendly fuel choice in response to the Kyoto Protocol in 1997. While diesel contains more CO2 than gasoline, diesel cars tend to emit less CO2 over the course of their lifetimes.

Particulates? Diesel engines also emit fine particulate matter in their exhausts. As well as causing problems for respiratory systems, this kind of pollution has also been shown to lead to heart problems. Regulations requiring diesel particle filters (DPFs) resulted in significantly reduced pollution from diesel engines.

NOx, is cleared up in a three-way catalytic converter in gasoline engines, which emit about 30% less NOx, than diesel cars. However, since NOx exposure is known to cause respiratory problems, modern diesel cars are fitted with filters that prevent excessive NOx, from reaching the atmosphere.

Newer diesel cars are designed to meet modern emissions standards, and when using the correct filters they produce the same or even fewer emissions than gasoline. However, older diesel cars and trucks are significantly more polluting than gasoline, when considering public health, clean air, and built-up urban driving conditions.

VW Dieselgate again , yet they want to reduce the power of the EPA etc
