I found this great, easy guide to secure a Chevy Volt. I haven’t yet tried it, but still wanted to share.

    just don’t forget that whatever the car’s computers still record, the maker’s diag software will be able to read it out next time the car is at the mechanic

        Without some serious ECM re-programming from someone that knows what they’re doing (which is very unlikely), probably not. Pretty sure they’re referencing OBDII protocol (or whatever the current standard is) in this context.

        Having said that, it’s probably only an issue when taking to the dealer for anything. Your everyday, local mechanic likely only cares about the diagnostic codes that might be active and point to the issue at hand.

          Yes, but when there are recalls that need to be handled by the dealership they will get your data.

          Honestly, it isn’t a huge deal to me other than the fact that there’s no way around it. You pay 10s of thousands of dollars for something, yet you still don’t fully own it.
