Wages not tracking with costs and inflation is certainly a problem; corporate America and, specifically, Wall Street investors reaping the most benefits from growth is a cancerous tumor that will sink the country if not fixed. However, trade jobs are essential to the country. Not everyone gets their mommy to but them a car and pay for their degree. Not everyone wants to go to college, get a white collar job, and sit in a cubicle for the rest of their lives.

I make no excuses. We’ve seen what Trump presidencies look like; the last was bumbling and did massive damage to civil rights, the next won’t be. Project 2025 ensures that.

Biden’s biggest crime has been supporting Israel. His presidency was categorically and measurably better for the US than Trump’s. Aside from Palestine, he wasn’t a bad president. Now, if Trump wasn’t saying that Israel isn’t going far enough; if Trump were supporting Palestine, then there’d be something to talk about. But he isn’t, and he did terrible things to our country while in charge, and should never be allowed near the White House again.

Oh, yeah. Absolutely. But I also want a president who’s not just going to take amphetamines so he can perform well past his bed time.

I’m not saying either of these guys is my first choice. I’m just saying that it was late, Biden had a cold, and he was probably taking Nyquil or something - he would want to be up there sneezing and blowing his nose. If you compare his performance in the debate to his speech in N Carolina, he certainly wasn’t at his peak. Good knows how much cocaine Trump had snorted before the debate.

Someone pointed out, the debate was scheduled for 9pm, with two men over 70. I’m in my 50’s, and I’m no good after 8pm. This should have been held in the morning.

The debate was poorly arranged, and once again Biden’s incompetent staff contributed by letting it happen.

Anybody following this able to give a balanced summary? I find The Hill to tend right-leaning and don’t much trust their analysis.

The Hill seems to be placing the defeat of Bowman on his stance against the genocide in Palestine, which is becoming a sort of dog-whistle saying, “stand against the invasion of Palestine, and this is what happens to you.” It may in this case be true; I can believe it, but I don’t trust The Hill to not be constructing a narrative.

That last one is the biggest goddamn cherry I’ve ever seen on top.

I get as frustrated as anyone else at the often glacial pace of justice. I’ve been told that it’s all in a good cause, that slow means careful and the best chance at just outcomes.

While I mostly believe this, my doubts stem from the fact that “justice” seems to be awfully stern and quick when the accused is poor, or a minority, and seems to only really becomes slow and careful when the rich, and especially the rich white, are accused. And the rich get to live in “house arrest” while the system cautiously, and protractedly, protects their rights. I have a difficult time reconciling that.

PS, I know you’re talking about Crowder, not the public. It just got me thinking.

Thanks! Downvotes don’t bother me. I was a big KDE fan, a couple of decades ago, and plasma has been exciting to watch; I was just saying that I wish it’d been as far along when I was still interested in DEs.

There are tiling communities, so I don’t feel a deep need to expound on this; it came across my feed only because I browse World occasionally, - in the name of Eris - and I still get curious almost every announcement. And, every time I try it, it looks very pretty, but I find it counter-productive and fussy, and I end up back in herbstluftwm.

You are absolutely right about the script-ability strength of Linux, and I think KDE of pretty scritpt-able, too. It’s just not a core value, like it is in bspwm or herbstluftwm, and that makes all the difference.

They’re still also statistically pretty young compared to other rich people who got wealthy in their young adulthood. And male. Give young men access to a bunch of money, and the results tend to not be pretty. Day what you will about old men, if they’re reaching peak income near or after 50, they’ve already blown the worst of their testosterone out of their systems - that still leaves ego, which is its own problem, but suddenly coming into money in your youth I believe badly skews your perspective of reality. The culture they obtained wealth in is also important: guys (and gals) who gain sudden wealth in their youth through, say, competitive snowboarding are also going to have a skewed perspective, but their peer group and the lack of the negative influence of Wall Street and investors mitigate the worst of the effects.

I think you have to cut off one of your fingers every time that happens, out something.

Should the Secret Service be a consideration?

Let’s say Trump brutally tortured and sexually abused some pre-teens in a basement in Texas, was tried and convicted and given a death sentance. Does the fact that hrs under the protection of the Secret Service have any bearing on the judgment? Should it?

That said, you’re probably right. He’ll have to spend a couple of years playing golf at Mar-a-Lago, a truly unjust and extreme punishment 🙄

I didn’t read the article; the CBS news site isn’t the worst, but it employs some of the common, horrible site design patterns, and is painful to read.

However: 34 counts. Each with a maximum possible 4 years incarceration sentence. It increases the odds of some jail time, for at least one or two counts.

The judge is said to be taking a lot of factors into consideration; I hope one is them is the unusually unanimous verdict on such a large number of counts.

I can’t stop giggling at the thought: 34 counts, each with a maximum 4 year penalty.

I know, I know… no judge is going to issue the maximum penalty on each of those counts, especially in this case. But a man can dream.

Maybe because not every system is Debian, and Plasma has to work on systems that either don’t have /usr/share/i18n/supported or put is somewhere else?

I manage a project that encounters this sort of thing regularly; my biggest problem is terminfo entries. Not all distributions contain all of the same terminfos. It is one of the biggest source of bug reports my project gets. I’ve been considering just embedding all of the terminfos in my project, just so I know they’ll all be there on every system it’s installed.

I don’t know this is Plasma’s reason for including their own list, but it could easily be. It could also be because those are the locales Plasma supports, and it may not support every locale that might be in the distro system list.

You know the best way to analyze a submission to the OCCC? Compile it, then run the result through a disassembler. You get back far more readable code than the source.

But you’re right; reading code isn’t easy; I meant relatively. If you have government-level resources and can hire a bunch of experienced software developers to review source code, armed with a bunch if static analysis tools (<cough>NSA), you have a decent chance of finding malicious code in software. I know of no similar tools (and the automated software analysis tools are the important factor) for finding backdoors in hardware.
