Ughh I tried the gemini model and I’m not too happy with the code it came up with, there’s a lot of intrinsities and concepts that the model doesn’t grasp enough IMO. That said I’ll reevaluate this continuously converting large chunks of code often works ok…

Yeah I think it makes sense out of an economic motivation. Often the code-quality of a junior is worse than that of an AI, and a senior has to review either, so they could just directly prompt the junior task into the AI.
The experience and skill to quickly grasp code and intention (and having a good initial idea where it should be going architecturally) is what is asked, which is obviously something that seniors are good at.
It’s kinda sad that our profession/art is slowly dying out because juniors are slowly replaced by AI.

I guess it really depends on the aspiration for code-quality, complexity (yes it’s good at generating boilerplate). If I don’t care about a one-time use script that is quickly written in a prompt I’ll use it.
Working on a big codebase, I don’t even get the idea to ask an AI, you just can’t feed enough context to the AI that it’s really able to generate meaningful code…
It’s definitely better than say a year ago, but it’s always a new small issue. Like suspend is not working, or shutting the monitor off crashes the graphics stack etc.
I really hope they get their shit together and build a solid wayland support at some (not too distant) time. But the amount of issues is small enough for me that I’ve switched to it.

Right, but you can also create accounts on different instances, so not really protected. Actually I think it’s very difficult to really filter bots when they’re done right, especially in times where LLMs start to be increasingly more popular.

Oh in practice it works quite well for me, basically all my friends and family use Signal now. You can slightly push them towards that, explain the obvious pros, it’s simple to install, so it’s just a small matter of convincing. I only rarely use WhatsApp for some external groups.

I still have (or rather had) some screen-tearing somewhere. I very much have annihilated that issue with settings in X11 (though some application somewhere still has issues, be it the video player). And it just feels clunky non the less.
Although I’m currently not using Hyprland, it really feels nice to use, really flowy. I’m currently testing COSMIC (which is reasonably still in alpha, as I got issues with *** nvidia, like suspend sometimes hangs the computer).
That said, I think it’s still ok to wait until the whole ecosystem is well supported in wayland, and *** nvidia finally got their wayland shit together.
Even if you don’t take profit off the list, it could well be that he had more financial success in these other companies because he uses twitter as promotion and propaganda platform…

A calculator also isn’t much help, if the person operating it fucks up. Maybe the problem in your scenario isn’t the AI.
If you can effectively use AI for your problems, maybe they’re too repetitive, and actually just dumb boilerplate.
I rather like to solve problems that require actual intelligence (e.g. do research, solve math problems, think about software architecture, solve problems efficiently), and don’t even want to deal with problems that require me to write a lot of repetitive code, which AI may be (and often is not) of help with.
I have yet to see efficient generated Rust code that autovectorizes well, without a lot of allocs etc. I always get triggered by the insanely bad code-quality of the AI that just doesn’t even really understand what allocations are… Arghh I could go on…
I’ll use it also often. But when the situation is complex and needs a lot of context/knowledge of the codebase (which at least for me is often the case) it seems to be still worse/slower than just coding it yourself (it doesn’t grasp details). Though I like how quick I can come up with quick and dirty scripts (in Rust for the Lulz and speed/power).
