Technology@lemmy.world•Australia bans social media for under 16sEnglish
51·1 year agoParenting is harder than ever, so I don’t blame parents.
Back in the day you would have the mother home all the time, even more recently there was still a strong community in most places and big families meant lots of babysitters.
Nowadays it’s fend for yourself for everybody almost everywhere, so raising a kid properly is almost impossible unless you are rich or have a lot of free time.

23·1 year agoMost kids are not going to pay a subscription for a VPN, I don’t think that would be as big of an issue as you think.

235·1 year agoI strongly disagree.
Social media is terrible for mental health especially for the youth. Phones and tablets help in some areas like motor control development but also hurt other places like attention deficiencies and critical thinking, and very rarely does it lead to a kid learning how technology works (that’s usually from the computer nerds, aka kids who want a computer, doesn’t happen even close to the same rate as smart phones.
Smart phones make people dumb. That’s my opinion. But the above are scientifically backed.

11·1 year agoI would only use them if they denied me EI after leaving the company and claiming I left due to the toxic environment. In Canada that’s how EI works, you can get it if you quit if the working environment is illegal or toxic etc

If teams was just teams and didn’t have all this cross integration bullshit with OneDrive/SharePoint and Todo and viva I wouldn’t mind it.
But no, it has to be part of the ecosystem 🤮
Why do they want IT admins to be useless?
Alright.
Anyways I didn’t specifically mean an assisted switch blade, any foldable knife would do.
Obviously the best case scenario is no violent encounters.
Lol @ switch blades being illegal but AR-15s are not
To be honest I would take some of the advice here, but in the immediate I would get a switch blade or bear mace or both and hide them in different places around your room.
When election day comes if anyone tries anything stupid you will at least have means to defend yourself and escape.
I think that’s a really good idea, let me know if it works!

Technology@lemmy.world•Removing Windows Recall breaks File Explorer in latest 24H2 update - NotebookCheck.net NewsEnglish
3·1 year agoAbsolutely agree, that’s why when I saw the patch notes for this latest Microsoft update I was like “They don’t mention why this is dangerous other than Linux can be used by the haxors”. It definitely just sounded like a way to crunch down on Linux use.
And like you said, I already allow Microsoft and riot and probably others I’m not thinking of to just have complete access to my computer so it’s not like I have any privacy, for security I can always check out potential issues myself with my pen testing laptop, so there is literally no benefit and only a ton of downsides to upgrading. So why would I?
This weekend the upgrading and updating ends for good, and I will get my dual boot Linux whether they like it or not.

2·1 year agoI am planning on just disabling windows update medic service and keeping my current version of windows 10 that still allows dual booting to Linux.
Once Valorant stops working on that version I guess I’ll have to just only play deadlock from then on.

1·1 year agoIsn’t A/C a huge power consumer though? And because most lights are led now, except for northern countries the day time would be higher energy use right?

So true lmao
