However, I do want to point out that you could say most of the same things about fundamental Christians, and while I’d personally take the same view of those types ( I do believe they’re a dangerous cult) I wouldn’t say anyone calling them peaceful religious types was engaging in “Alex Jones level of manipulation of the truth” and wouldn’t discount them entirely for holding that view. Particularly when, as you say, it’s very likely they are actually being persecuted

There’s been enough reports of similar treatment of other groups, like the Uyghurs and Tibetans, from reputable sources that I believe something is going on there.

As for sources, if the CCP is half as bad as he makes them out to be, it would be irresponsible of him to give sources.

Yes and no. I agree that camel vs snake or that stupid mNameThing that was popular for a while, doesn’t reeeeeaaally matter, although I would argue that convention over the language still has value. As an example, naming a Java variable with a capital letter would be confusing and annoying to any new devs joining the project, even if it’s a valid identifier. Also it’s handy to be able to look at something in ALL_CAPS and know that it’s probably a static final, without having to check it’s definition. I guess it’s about finding that line between useful conventions and pedantry.

Thinking code complete is going to save you is naive. Even in languages like C and Java, where it works best, you still need to be able to read and understand the code in context. There’s no hope in a language like Ruby with all it’s meta programming stuff

I… partially agree? There’s a bit of a difference between the targeted tracking a private individual does with an airtag, vs the generalized, but equally creepy tracking google/apple/others do through widespread tech. One definitely poses a greater short term risk than the other

Facebook is literally selling people in data form. But here’s rabbit hole for anyone interested. That brand name being synonymous with the product thing is actually fairly regional.

We just call them tissues here. I think you can get Kleenex brand here, but I don’t think anybody cares about the brand of tissue. There’s a particular kind that has some kind of aloe Vera extract which is all I’ll use if I’m sick, but I don’t even know what brand they are.

On the flip side, we call marker pens Biros, and where I grew up we called them Khokis
