My wife had a labmate in grad school submit a paper on a comedy robot, and a reviewer noted “the authors mention humor several times but never define the concept.”

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Just saw this by chance: Donations and Patrons for Lemmy development surged massively on Liberapay in the last weeks!English

I feel very confident in my understanding of random 8 bit CPUs and their support chips, but asking me to center a div is like this xkcd.
I legitimately know people who press the caps lock key, type what they need uppercased, then press the caps lock key again. That said, I use both shift keys.
SSNs are not reissued after death and never have been. I’ve been seeing a lot of people comment this, but I’m not sure where they’re getting it from. (They’re not unique for other reasons, however.)
This is a real incident ticket I saw:
Subject: “broken” Description: “website down”
Given that the website was in fact not down, and they included no details, and they must have been filing it on behalf of someone else as their user-id didn’t have an account at all (it is an internal corporate product), this was a real head scratcher.

Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube shorts disproportionately promotes alt-right content according to this experimentEnglish
8·10 months agoJust scrolling through shorts on a given day, I’m usually recommended at least one short by someone infamously hostile to the LGBTQIA+ community. I get that it could be from people with my interests hate-watching, but I don’t want to be shown any of it. (Nearly all of my YouTube subscriptions are to LGBTQIA+ creators. I’m not subscribed to anyone who has ever even mentioned support for right leaning policies on anything.)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What would happen if dead leaves suddenly became the most valuable currency in the world?
651·1 year agoWell for starters, at least one famous economist would be discredited.

For my anniversary dinner last night I wore a cute green sweater and sweatpants and my wife was like, wtf are you doing it’s 104F out.
Anyways, dress for the weather you want not the weather you have.
It looks like the average is 11 PTO days a year according to Forbes, with nearly a third of employees getting zero. I myself get 24 days a year with it going up to 29 in about a year. That said I’m terrified of being effed over by layoffs so I’ve been hoarding them like a dragon for the payout, which is arguably way way worse than having a nice federal minimum of PTO days.

politics @lemmy.world•Majority of independents say Trump received ‘fair trial'
21·2 years agoI think they were trying to say slightly more Republicans found it unfair than found the verdict incorrect
Is it? I would expect someone to come up with either toggling a variable back and forth for even/odd, or counting by 2s, heck, treat it as a floating point, divide by two, and search the string representation for a period or something!

That box is suspiciously similar to the laptop I leave at my parents for when I visit. The mouse and keyboard even look identical!
