The American use of the word “moderate” irks me anyway. An American “moderate” Democrat passes as a non-rabid conservative elsewhere. The Overton-Window has been shifted to the right to an extent that’s not funny anymore.

Exactly! There is even still defense equipment in use that uses 8inch floppies!

That last part is essential. People learn much more habits from observing people than from being told. Best one can do is be a good role model.

Some would argue it misses the topic, but I’ll offer the Unix text editor wars. Vi vs. Emacs is pretty much the epitome of a pointless religious war in people’s favourite activity, though for some that’s obviously their job.

Why do I mention it? Because most would just look at it and say: obviously none of the above, what are you even talking about? But those in the know have been heatedly debating the topic since at least the 80s… (I’m team vi for what it’s worth)

That’s what frustrates me about most of history. History books talk about glorious leaders and their conquests and all I see is “Gangs of New York” writ large. And conquests are to me just organised armed robbery, organised at such a scale that people are given uniforms.

Essentially only modern rule based international politics elevated war over gang turf quarrels. It’s a shame it’s in the process of being abandoned.

Germany also had a ton of oil based central heating. Most of those systems are going to transition to wood pellet heating. Maybe a little also to heat pumps. But common wisdom currently still is that heat pumps require suitably built houses to make sense. I wonder how much if that is just fossile fuel propaganda and how much is technically true.
