Hello!
I’ve recently started self-hosting piefed and federation seems to be working well! I can find communities, post to communities and the data is synced between instances.
However, when I select the local filter on my personal instance, nothing shows up. I can’t seem to find a way to mirror the post locally without setting up a community and reposting it there. But wouldn’t that duplicate data as the original image is already stored locally?

Am I missing something? I suppose what I’m wanting the local filter to do is show all content from local users not just local communities. Is there a way to do that?

Also this tech is crazy!! Very grateful that it exists. Excited for the future!

    Congrats :)

Yeah in Mastodon local means ‘posted by people on this instance’ but that’s a different definition of ‘local’ than what PieFed and Lemmy uses. Here local means ‘posted in a community hosted on this instance’.

That’s an interesting idea though and I’m open to making a second Local or an admin setting that changes what local does, if there is widely felt interest in it.

Thanks so much for the quick response! Big respect for the work that you’re doing. A second local would be amazing. I’ll keep my fingers crossed :)
