I can never remember the difference.
When you rat someone out, you’re breaking trust. You were part of whatever was going on, and now you’re trying to save yourself.
When you snitch on someone, there’s not that element of betrayal, because you might not have ever been part of the crime, just stumbled across it.
Think of it this way.
You and your brother are stealing cookies. If your brother fesses up to save himself, he’s a rat, if your sister catches you and tells, she’s a snitch.
