Most don’t actively seek out their own information, but wait until it’s spoon-fed and unavoidable. I guarantee a new face would lose just as many votes due to lack of trust in who they say they are.

So swapping in someone who hasn’t been maligned for all that time must be a terrible idea. We can’t let Republicans waste effort like that.
