  • Corporations are not granted the same rights as natural persons - they’re granted some of the rights of natural persons (and some of those make sense while other are dumb).

Preventing corporations from operating as persons when contributing to political campaigns would be an absolute win for representation… Citizens United was a trash ruling by trash people.

Preventing corporations from operating as persons when interacting with the legal system would massively complicate our legal code and probably lead to a lot of awful edge cases where they could dodge liability for their actions. They are generally immune to manslaughter and some industries have dumb political carve outs (like firearms manufacturers having immunity to most product liability) but people’s ability to sue, i.e. a paper mill after getting luekimeia relies on corporate personhood in our current system.

When we talk about “corporations shouldn’t be people” we (I think it’s fair to be generally inclusive here) are talking about their ability to donate to politicians and political causes.

  • I’m an atheist. I was agnostic and still technically am, I guess, but I transitioned to the annoying as fuck in your face atheism after watching chucklefucks like Westboro Baptist Church and Evangelicals being asshats. Oh, also, grew up in Boston during the altar boy rape scandals.

Personally, I think that God may or may not exist and it’s crucial to live your life now as you want to (and that isn’t a license to be an asshat - be kind to others just 'cause). Socially I think that religion is a poison that causes more suffering than it heals.

  • Young people can struggle with this until they realize how thoroughly fucked we all are. There’s a weird culture of height significance in dating that’s a pretty entrenched meme at this point. So it’s something there is a lot of insecurity around it.

Your view is the correct one, of course, we just need to fucking deal with what we are aka “have the grace to accept the things I cannot change”.

  • For me, personally, I appreciate Spotify because it has pretty solid out of the box functionality where my preferences and locally downloaded songs easily sync between different devices, I can control output on one device from another (I have an old computer running Spotify hooked up to my house speakers and just control what’s playing from my phone, laptop, work laptop or gaming machine), and my constantly shifting music tastes can be satiated.

I absolutely understand those that eschew it on ethical grounds and the free tier is, indeed, hot fucking garbage.
