My point is that you are judging people by something as superficial and pointless as what finger they are using on their phones as if people do mundane things to get inside you head. How do you even notice a thing like that? How do you come to the conclusion that it is trashy?

Your clothes could fit better, your couch could be comfier, your locks could be more secure, your coffee brewer could make better coffee. I enjoy the daily good walk with my dog. When he is happy I am happy. Maybe it is a chore because it must be done but I’m happy to do so even the days when it initially sucks to leave home.

Just that it is FOSS without any black box binary blobs. It is stable and works great so why not.

Edit: I don’t have anything against the custom fork.

Edit 2: That it is supported in the mainline OpenWRT means it will be updated with security and features even if the custom fork is abandoned.

GL.iNet are flashable and come with their fork of OpenWRT out of the box. I run the latest regular OpenWRT on mine.
