I’ll definitely hold onto good wood, things with zero knots, nice grain or simply rarer species, but I’ll never hoard used construction lumber.

The “hobby carpenter” and handymen sort. Guys who like building stuff and own land to do it on. So much crap and sub par materials. Hundreds of salvaged half rotten 2x4s that might be enough to hold a person with a couple dozen of them. Shit tons of insulation just getting soaked outside, tons of random cinder blocks and bricks, etc. Add in a side of drywall, random carpet scraps, tons of various wiring, and a massive assortment of tools that have probably seen more house dust than wood dust.

Not taking a dig at these guys, but you have to be realistic with what you can accomplish. Unless its a crazy good deal/find that you know you will use or be able to give away, don’t touch it.

For the sake of space and organization, just buy materials for the project RIGHT before you build it, and AFTER you plan EVERYTHING about it. Account for EVERY piece you need so you never need to buy a bunch extra “just in case”.

By its nature, communism requires large amounts of control, as it’s a centrally planned economy. The state decides if it needs more coal, wheat, tools, steel, etc, then conscipts people as workers for various industries. Instead of an economy controlled by demand business owners, it is controlled by the state.

To maintain that control you need to maintain control of the people.

Yeah a lot of people hate their local police because of something that happened on the other side of the country. You should only distrust your local department when you have a reason to distrust them. I live in a little town and the local police are super chill.

Its never the people, its a system. Currently we have a system that allows for unqualified and even violent people in the police force, with little accountability. There are still those who join in good faith to serve and protect their community. Unfortunately it seems like they are becoming a slimmer and slimmer minority, but they are still prominent.

I wouldn’t mindlessly hate your local police force until ypu have a reason to hate them. Police aren’t some hivemind. I live in a small town and the local police are super chill.

I completely agree. Lived around narcissists my entire life, even covert narcissists that try to act humble, and this post is exactly what a narcissist would write. I don’t mean to bash OP, but their traits are obvious to those who are experienced with them. I hope they seek treatment before they hurt anyone.

Just look up “narcissism”, “NPD” or “narcissistic personality disorder” and the results are about how dangerous people with NPD are and how to spot somebody with NPD or if your ex boyfriend is a narcissist etc… etc…

Thats because these people ARE dangerous. My dad was a narcissist (my own assumption) and his new wife is a narcissist (both of her parents actually got proper diagnosis and testing, both were positive)

My new step mom actually tried to ruin my life. She tried to throw all of my belongings away, kicked out my cat and kicked my sister and I out. (right as I turned 16 and my sister turned 20). DCF got involved and they did jack shit cause my dad bought a separate house to put us in.

My mom is also a narcissist and she is the most exhausting person to deal with. She has hit and hurt me in the past and blamed me. Constant gaslighting, constant blaming, constant lying. Narcissists are the most damaging and dangerous people you can come across. Some are obviously less insane, and are tolerable, but if I knew someone have serious NPD I’d completely avoid them and hardly talk to them.

Also I’d like to clear up, if you think you are a little smarter, or better than everyone else, I wouldn’t call you a narcissist. However if you think you are more important than everyone, and think its OK to lie to or hurt people, even a little for personal gain, you are a narcissist.

HDDs are a lot more complicated with a ton of components and moving parts. You can measure and predict the wear on the disks, but not really anything else. Parts like the main motor, read head, secondary motor can fail suddenly. Theres also other stuff that wears down like springs, bearings, ribbon cables, lubricant, etc. The logic board on HDDs are also super complicated, since it has to do a lot. It has to control the brushless DC motor, which requires a complicated driver, control the read head motor, and a ton of other stuff. look online and compare the logic board of an HDD to an NVME and it’s a miracle HDDs stayed relevant for so long.

It comes down to simplicity, SSDs just have so many fewer components that can break.

I never really trust used HDD’s with anything I care a lot about. I’m either backing it up on the cloud or storing it on an SSD. Used HDDs are still decently useful if you get them cheap and crystal disk reports they are good.

SSD’s fail much more predictable so even if its got a decent amount of run time and a couple dead sectors I have an OK amount of. Havent worked computers for a while, but if I remember, SSDs kind of burn out like a wick, bit by bit more clusters/sectors fail until the drive slowly becomes unusable.

SSDs have gotten so cheap new I’d probably just buy a new one if the old one isn’t already in tip top condition

Used hardware is crazy cheap. You can get a tower with 16gb memory, 8th or 9th gen processors, ssd storage for like 200$. Workstations are also super cheap if doing 3D modeling.

This is exactly it. Everything is fucking expensive because of companies, and direct consequences of their control. Food is expensive because of massive conglomerates that control a majority of food sales. Housing is fucking expensive because it has become an investment where investors are incentivised to push it higher. Medical bills are fucking expensive because people will give up EVERYTHING to NOT DIE. Transportation is expensive because car companies force us all to own, maintain and repair cars.

The population is FINE, its just companies that create artificial scarcity to squeeze every last fucking dime out of us. It’s genuinely sickening how little wealth of the elderly will actually be passed on to family members . After nursing home fees, medical bills and inheritance tax theres nearly nothing left, just as the system intended.
