I’m more of a shows person than movies and the first thing that came to mind was Silo, freaking loved it. Also Pluribus! :)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are you supposed to say to someone who believes climate change is real but won't accept that human activity contributes to it?
31·21 days agoha… I’m vegan, me sitting at a table to eat is enough for people to feel the need to defend themselves and their choices without me saying anything other than kindly answering their questions from a conversation they start. It forces one to train the skill of not engaging with people like that.
Also he’s the one that started it with the (likely bad-taste) joke, not you, but good on you for taking one just to end it. Some people just can’t deal with their cognitive dissonance because it would mean facing their actions not matching with their idealized version of themselves, you can’t have reasonable conversations with them.

183·21 days agoNothing, having arguments with people that lack basic critical thinking skills is a waste of time. A simple google search can give you all the data and numbers and you can show it to them but it doesn’t matter if they believe they know better than actual scientists. There are people out there that believe the Earth is flat.
I tried Librewolf but found the restrictions for my own privacy too annoying as it constantly broke stuff and gave me extra work so I went back to Firefox and customized the privacy settings. I know I could’ve done that with Librewolf too but I found it more annoying to work with unfortunately x_x And I have Ungoogled Chrome as my backup

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do your daily meals look like each day?
32·4 months agoBreakfast, depends a lot on the day but a good one would generally have:
- Just Egg folded (vegan egg)
- Bread with butter and a slice of melty (vegan) cheese
- 2.5 or 3 breakfast sausage patties from Gardein
- Avocado
- Sprouts or cherry tomatoes
Some days it’s Soylent. I take B12 and D on a gummy.
Lunch my easy go-to I can eat almost any time:
- Gardein Supreme Chick’n nuggets (10)
- Fries
- Cheeze mozarella sticks (3 - 4)
- Avocado
- Microwaved broccoli
Dinner:
- Udon noodles
- Firm tofu
- Chinese chilli oil with flakes and peanuts
- Baby bok choy
Today I had:
- Swap chick’n inside
- 3 corn quesadillas with
- avocado
- Chinese chilli oil with flakes and peanuts
(Yes, I love avocado, I’m Mexican) While fish does have a lot of nutrients it’s quite easy to get them from other plant sources too :p

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•what are good in-person activities for making friends?
15·1 year agoAdding to what other people said there’s volunteering for a cause you care about. It’s a great way to meet other people that share your values… be it helping with preparing meals for the unhoused, cleaning public spaces, planting trees, bothering your politicians, reading to elderly/kids/dogs, holding newborns without caretakers in hospitals, etc… look for your local organizations and reach out :)

Start by deleting social media from your phone, make it so it’s really inconvenient to get in there.
If you can’t afford to close your accounts then log out of the web brower’s websites and change the password to something randomly generated that you only have on your computer so you can only log in there when needed. You can still access the chats using something like Beeper.
Find things to replace the doomscrolling with. Short simple games that actually help your brain like Tetris, Sudoku, and/or word games - I’ve been really enjoying Blossom Word Search, it’s really calming and satisfying.
Get books that are about topics you care about or enjoy, doesn’t matter how good they are or if they provide any actual value… reading books will help you regain your attention span and reading comprehension skills while keeping you away from screens. You can set tiny goals like reading two pages without getting distracted and then grow it to 5, a chapter, and so on. Put your phone on do not disturb while you read or leave it in another room. Visit your local library, they’re free!
Physical excercise will do wonders for your brain too. I personally love rope climbing in a gym and recently started doing parkour too. It’s a fun way of excercising and building community. Find a sport that calls to you and start by doing it one time a week, even if you suck, we all start somewhere. It’s much easier if you join other people already doing it, look for local groups that practice it. You don’t have to step foot in a regular boring gym.
Anything you do start with small achievable goals and then build them up as that becomes easier. If you get distracted or start going back into old habits it’s ok, just stop and get back to it as you catch yourself. Eventually it’ll become easier.
Oh and do not use LLMs to get answers. Use a search engine like Duck Duck Go with AI turned off. Researching skills are super important and LLMs can really liquify your brain, they take away your creativity and critical thinking skills.
