To me, the fact that r/zootopia was the biggest Disney movie subreddit and never stopped growing is entirely due to it having an umbilical cord to the furry fandom. You can also say that the Zootopia fandom was a good place for normies that were too straight to be furries, and you can say that the Zootopia fandom was step 1 of the pipeline that leads to owning a fursuit and a canine butt plug. All three were probably true.

Genuinely once or twice in 8 years. People knew the rules.

But the rules around NSFW content were a point of contention, i placed the bar a lot lower than most people in the community would have it. I’ve actively moderated the Zootopia subreddit almost since its inception. We did a lot of cool stuff but, uh, moderating a subreddit is not the kind of thing you brag about. Anyway, i quit this year.

Also i have every single r/place-related medal because i helped organize artworks. That’s not any better is it?

Yeah, i ruled out Wine as an option pretty early on and i don’t remember why. May have been compatibility issues?

I have cheap audio interfaces (C600, Alesis IO2, M-Audio FastTrack Pro and such), and apparently they’re supposed to be natively compatible with Linux. Huge if true, on Windows i had to install drivers for each of them, including a community-built one. I don’t know what this means for pro interfaces but it’s encouraging

Where are you on that process? I do 2D visuals and i’m at the point where all software that i use is available on Linux, but i have yet to actually try it in practice

I switched to Linux easily because this laptop does nothing but internet and office work. If you have any kind of complex workflow, changing anything is hard, let alone changing everything from the OS upwards. Same if you need to run obscure proprietary software.

Transitioning from Windows to Linux Mint was effortless for me, everything worked out of the box and i haven’t typed a line of code yet. All i’ve had to to do is install Diodon to get the clipboard history feature.

However all i’ve done with it is internet and office work, basic stuff. No gaming, no video editing, no 3D animation or any such. I think if you have a mature and complicated creative workflow it’s totally possible that you’ll struggle to move to Linux

And it’s that good at 4% market share. Imagine the possibilities if 20% of desktops were Linux, with that much dev time being put into it.

If you have a 2010 computer, it’s either old Windows or Linux, modern WIndows is going to suck, if it even works. Ergo, i can’t think of a circumstance where you’d want/have to install Win10 on a hard drive instead of an SSD.

Maybe shits and giggles, similar to running Doom on random stuff? If someone has more imagination than me then i’m open

I tried Ubuntu in 2015 or so, and Mint in 2018, and quit both times. Now i’ve been using Mint since last July.

I don’t know if it’s because Linux changed or i changed, but one way or another something clicked. I’m planning on switching entirely to Mint before Win10 reaches end of life because there’s no way i’m installing Win11, so i have to migrate my whole workflow by then.

I feel like they should cross. For a long time Linux really was “worse” than Windows in the sense that you needed some computer knowledge and deal with incompatibilities with the OS that most people were using; both have gotten better in recent years and Windows has gotten worse, so for some use cases i’d say we could be at the point that the lines cross.

Why would you install Windows 10 on a hard drive? If your computer is that old, you want 7 or XP

BD = Bande Dessinée, the french term for both graphic novels and comics. Both have a huge history in Europe in general and France-Belgium in particular, but it’s extremely unusual for english speakrs to know or care, it’s really appreciated.

I guess i shouldn’t speak so definitively, it’s not like i have data to back up the fact that there are more French than English speakers with bad grammar; but really, french grammar is worse than complex, it’s unintuitive and arbitrary, and it does feel like i see more french speakers with bad grammar. Yeah, so by all accounts i’m the kind of person most likely to love the french language: native speaker, effortless spelling and grammar, avid reader of BD, i even like the flowery and decorative aspects of the language (language soutenu); but then i also speak other languages, and this gives me the perspective that, from a practical standpoint, there’s a lot of issues with french. There’s layers of sediment accumulated over centuries, a lot of rules and spellings are vestigial and serve no purpose anymore other than make it harder.

Also, a lot of rules and spellings come from grammarians just saying so, and writing prescriptivist style guides to make people spell The Correct Way. To a point, i even think the ability to invent and follow an arbitrary The Correct Way hass been a class signal.

Even native french speakers sometimes have bad grammar, or at least that’s much more common than english speakers having bad grammar.

English speakers say the same things about their language, but they don’t know about ô <— this accent and the agony of trying to guess when it should be used or not. It’s supposed to indicate a difference in pronunciation, but this difference depends on the accent and is also obvious from context. I’ve known teachers to dock points for shit like this, and it radicalized me against arbitrary rules despite being completely capable of following them. In my opinion, people use features that have a purpose; if people don’t use it, then it’s pointless.

And from a global perspective, fewer people speak french than a lot of other languages. On the one hand this doesn’t matter, lots of people speak mandarin, it’s about who you’re likely to interact with; but i’d say your more likely to interact with spanish speakers.

Unless of course you’re that much into BD. That doesn’t surprise me at all, lots of english speakers learned japanese for weeb reasons, i think it’s completely legit to learn a language for the culture. Actually i find it pretty impressive
