This has been my experience in San Francisco over the past 15 years. The techbro types, who see technology as a way to get rich, often share the same worldview that life is about “winning” and in this business you “win” if you are smarter than others, so therefore since they are “winning”, they are smart and deserve everything they get (or… take). But, that mentality and their behavior and the culture it creates can often influence humble, empathetic people into that toxic self-hype cycle.
Thank you for making scary content!
First panel is too real. Thank you for making relatable content!
Even better to see Grendel, who has always been one of the best characters

White dude in software here to echo the same sentiment. So many of my colleagues have never experienced any hardship of their own or viewpoints of people with different experiences. They don’t think about how their privilege has helped them get where they are, and how their company culture often subtly (at best!) reinforces their worldview and massages their egos. They’ve never tried to think critically about their “meritocracy” or “libertarian” beliefs and how many people are unjustly excluded from the lifestyle they enjoy.
20 years in software development for me.

Maybe I’ll regret asking, but what could “haiku-level brilliant” even mean?

Where’s that venn diagram with all these, and “you are here” in the middle?

That’s kinda silly to make a day for an internet blogger, but ok.
They should’ve put it over Charlie Kirk day, lol (though I know that is also unofficially George Floyd day)

That is a great article, thanks for the link

Can I get unavailable AI overviews for all my searches? Then Google has a chance to be usable again

It may be Vogon poetry in content, but at least it’s not poetry BY Vogons.

I hope they meet hexbear soon
“lug around”? the server(s) are 100% in a data center, no way this is a single computer on prem. no company, especially facebook, deploys software that way in 2025

Hey now, some of us Americans are treating him like the dead fascist propagandist that he is

I’m gonna need more red streamers for my Kirkmas decorations

That’s how we know not to do it anymore
Knowledge tells you it’s safe to push to prod in Fridays. Wisdom tells you not to. Experience raises your heart rate at the very thought (though, that might actually be ptsd)

I’m not somewhere where I can listen to the song right now - I’ll give it a listen later - but to be clear I’m not saying they’re not metal, just that their style isn’t really in any of the metal genres I usually listen to. From what I know vaguely of the band they’re metalcore? But I really haven’t listened to them much myself and this is just from what I’ve heard from others.

Generally no, I am all about metal, but her mix of bubblegum pop and, Idk, nu metal? was something refreshing and her shows have been fun as hell (seen her 3x).
Evanescence and Spiritbox I find too radio friendly and, if I’m being honest, kinda cringy. I understand some folks say the same about Poppy though.
Generally I am all about doom, black, thrash, and traditional metal (and various subgenres). I wouldn’t classify any of these ladies under those, though
It’s easy to take the pedantic side and decry this as a foolish ruling but I counter that anyone that’s been on a flight knows that not every “window” seat has a window. It’s unfortunate that the common parlance doesn’t match reality but that’s how it is 🤷♂️
