It takes time to ween yourself away. Make it inconvenient to check social media. Delete the apps and make yourself login to the webapp every time. Kodi is a good streaming platform if you’re okay with piracy.
sic_semper_tyrannis@feddit.chto Technology@lemmy.world•Is Framework actually "good" for the industry?English6·1 year agoI plan to get one soon. The largest value I see is in a company that cares about your right to repair and open sourcing their components so anyone can make parts easily. They also have a hardware killswitch for the camera. Also I hope to see more options for Coreboot which seems likely. If people actually care about e-waste too this seems (I haven’t looked into their manufacturing deeply) like a way to not add as much trash into the environment and not waste as much material in this age of consumerism and wastefulness. Of course the upgradeability is a welcome change to the laptop market and they have official support for some Linux distros

A great positive is that it is a very light weight vehicle. The approach angle looks good. It’s cool how it pops open to supposedly live in but I wonder what the interior is actually like. I can’t imagine it is carrying much living supplies, water, etc as it’s a very light vehicle.
Some negatives include terrible ground clearance and a horrendous departure angle. I can’t imagine the break over angle is very good considering the low ground clearance. It also has small tire sidewalls so they couldn’t have aired down much.
All in all, not a serious off road vehicle. I would argue it’s as much of an off road vehicle as a Prius is with a roof top tent on it. It’s just meant to cruise fire roads.

sic_semper_tyrannis@feddit.chto Technology@lemmy.world•Each Bitcoin transaction uses 4,200 gallons of water — enough to fill a swimming pool — and could potentially cause freshwater shortagesEnglish1·2 years agoPeople can talk all day and say things could have been used for something else or something better. Most of the time people can think of an idea but nobody does it. Don’t be hateful towards BTC miners because they actually did it. Like someone else mentioned in another comment, water would be much better utilized by not going into thousands of pools and golf courses or watering lawns. You would probably need investors to have a large operation but it doesn’t make these people elite or whatever whales are. The people I know who mine using oil exhaust are wholesome good people just making it by like everyone else is and trying to live their dream. The difference is BTC (not other cryptos) using renewable energy puts it in a unique position to be a good product for everyone as it’s a money that is equal for everyone to use, unlike traditional fiat currencies.
sic_semper_tyrannis@feddit.chto Technology@lemmy.world•Each Bitcoin transaction uses 4,200 gallons of water — enough to fill a swimming pool — and could potentially cause freshwater shortagesEnglish66·2 years agoThis is simply untrue. I know a large BTC mining operation and they don’t use water. They use the gases coming off from oil mining that would otherwise go into the atmosphere. BTC mining takes advantage of surplus energy so it’s creation doesn’t go to waste. The mining is good for our environment. I’ve also read about solar panels sitting above crops to power BTC miners. These panels covering the crops help conserve water while helping the plants grow better.
Edit: • Agrivoltaic farming • Mining with gas flaring • Mining with nuclear and hydro power
