ryedaft@sh.itjust.worksto Europe@feddit.org•‘Parkinson’s is a man-made disease’ - Pesticides may be fueling a silent epidemic, warns Dutch neurologist Bas BloemEnglish73·8 days agoand is expected to double again in the next 20. It is now one of the fastest-growing neurological disorders in the world, outpacing stroke and multiple sclerosis
Why is it expected to double again? How can you make that prediction when you aren’t sure why it doubled in the first place. Unless it’s more prevalent because people live longer and you expect people to live even longer in the future (we can have pretty good modelling of this).
Is it the growth that’s greater than the growth of stroke and MS or is Parkinson’s more common than those diseases? Seems unclear. If it’s growth then how is it relevant? Is stroke and MS case load growing at an alarming rate?
Doesn’t it seem weird that they don’t see an increased Parkinson’s rate in farmers? Asbestos was identified as a danger because it killed the miners and craftsmen working with it.

Right now you’re experiencing some degree of culture shock so that’s going to take ~6 months before that is fully settled. “This is weird.” “Yes, that’s something people experience in a variety of contexts”.
But outside of that in the long run you really have to think about what’s important to you and carve out time for that or you will be lonely and miserable. Something with regularity. I play board games with friends once a week. Sometimes I can’t make it and they do it without me. But there’s still way too much of my time that ends up being me staring at Lemmy or the TV, thinking that I really should <some chore>. And you can end up like that whether you are single or in a relationship. School was simpler.
I’m European and happy to be but I also look at European history and don’t want us to go too hard.

Wow, this article is scientifically weak.
Alcohol poisoning refers to an overdose of ethanol but these people are dying from methanol poisoning.
Methanol is not added because it is cheaper. Rather you can extremely cheaply produce ethanol synthetically via a process that also produces smaller, varying amounts of methanol. You can’t taste the difference between a drink that will kill you and one that won’t because it is still mainly ethanol. Legal ethanol is made by fermentation followed by distillation. People keep making and selling the illegal stuff because mostly it doesn’t kill people. Except when it does.

We could also do it the American way and make sure half the population is poor and that you need money for healthcare and university education. It’s a bit like how you could get Roman citizenship if you served. I like conscription better.
