For sure, I do. I also think that’s normal, because you sometimes need filler to let your brain catch up with your words. The filler words I find annoying are the ones that don’t “fit” the context, but that’s subjective, and younger people probably think “low-key” fits more often than I do.

The title of the graphic is a bit misleading. What it shows is the impact that different vote counting systems would’ve had on the distribution of seats in parliament for the vote shares that resulted from the 2024 election. What it doesn’t show is an actual prediction of election results. Even computing the alternative vote seat distributions is not going to be exact because AMS as it’s usually defined is a two-vote system, where it is possible to “split” ones vote between two party tickets, and this cannot be emulated without actually having these voting results.

Surprised to see AMS with an uneven split like 68:32. Can someone explain or summarize what the arguments in favor of this would be?

He didn’t publish them, as far as I know. The charges brought against him were centered around the allegedly “fraudulent” use of his JSTOR account and the fact that he downloaded the files from the premises of an institution he did not belong to by plugging his laptop in a network switch in a restricted area where he wasn’t allowed to be. The actual deed was minor, likely not even criminal as far as digital rights were concerned, and the charges were famously so out of proportion that even other attorneys and legal scholars questioned them publicly. The publishers wanted to make an example, and it drove Swartz into suicide before a proper trial could be held.

Meta and other companies do essentially the same thing at a much larger scale and with the clear intent to monetize it through publishing AI models built on top of it all. The main difference is the legal climate, which has changed since/due to Swartz, and the lack of clarity that the law has for these new applications. Substantively though, there is a good bit of hypocrisy here, and it makes sense to point this out.

Okay, so while I agree that public safety is a huge issue in industrial policy, the steel mill was acquired by China only ten years ago in 2016. Is it really plausible that a fourfold increase in cancer diagnoses (in all of Serbia no less) can be attributed to such a recent, local event? This main issue seems to be the failure to enforce safety regulations, which probably dates back much longer than the mill being operated by the Chinese.

That makes sense for the trees. Still could’ve built a simpler structure with some plants that don’t have such deep roots.

Funny, Debian is the reason I came to Arch in the first place and never really left. I like Debian, but once you need more recent versions of something, things quickly get messy.

My journey was: Ubuntu, Debian, ChrunchBang, ArchBang, Arch. Not a big fan of distro hopping, so I’ll probably stay like this or try Fedora if ever I want something non-rolling again.
