No, blocking an instance only prevents you from seeing communities on those instances. You can still interact with users from that instance in other communities. It basically just prevents you from accidentality wandering into their home-turf.

The instance you’re on really doesn’t matter that much (unless you want one that already comes with a big de-federation list, like certain “safe-space” instances).

The more important part is curating your feed by blocking offending instances/users you don’t want to interact with.

Alright then, knock yourself out. Don’t expect any good-faith arguments or reasonable conversation from these instances, though. You’ll be disappointed.
