Another alternative on the fediverse is NeoDB. I’m trying that one out for the time being. Its interface is pretty barebones and could use some work, but it’s nice because you can track more than books.

Technology@lemmy.world•OpenAI declares AI race “over” if training on copyrighted works isn’t fair useEnglish
4·1 year agoInterlibrary Loan isn’t available everywhere (at least back when I used to work at a library ~10 years ago it wasn’t). If it is, it often has an associated fee (usually at least shipping fees, sometimes an additional service fee). I think the common exception to that is public university libraries.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anyone know why americans are relatively unconcerned about dying to totally preventable stuff like disease?English
7·1 year agoI think many of us don’t realize that there’s a better option. As in, this is just the way it is. Many who do learn there are alternatives then fall to propaganda about how the alternatives are worse or communist, etc.

2·1 year agoMost likely someone at the AI company would catch it and filter those strings out of the training data.

Technology@lemmy.world•New technology could save declining honeybee populationsEnglish
4·1 year agobee populations are declining rapidly due to habitat loss, pesticides, parasites, and climate change.
Not sure why habitat loss is listed since honeybees are invasive in the U.S. We should be focusing harder on saving native pollinators.

Technology@lemmy.world•Mozilla is already revising its new Firefox terms to clarify how it handles user dataEnglish
10811·1 year agoMozilla says that “there are a number of places where we collect and share some data with our partners” so that Firefox can be “commercially viable,” but it adds that it spells those out in its privacy notice and works to strip data of potentially identifying information or share it in aggregate.
Sounds like they’ve already been selling (or trading) data and this whole debacle is a way to retroactively cover their asses.
This is pretty normal. Every time there’s a big wave of new fediverse users, a big chunk eventually goes back to their original social media. Some portion will stick around to be regular users and the cycle will repeat again next time a social media company pisses off a bunch of people.
What truly makes a difference for users is your attention to the product and their needs.
This is the most important thing here. Additional thing to consider that in my experience devs regularly overlook: how easy is it to implement and support?
