It very much does mean the sort that is in a cellphone, connecting to GSM networks. Anytime you hear about a car that has OTA updates, that’s how they’re doing it. That includes electric cars like Tesla, but also ICE cars made by Hyundai, Honda, BMW and others. Manufacturers have been found to be selling information about your driving patterns to insurance companies without the consent of the owner, affecting their premiums.

They can afford too because they are data-only plans, bought in large bulk quantities, with fairly low data caps.

Why would that be tied to the blackout? I thought that France contributed heavily to getting the grid back online as fast as it did.

They don’t need to be tossed on the ground to cause chaos, and if you’re abled bodied you might not have noticed the inconvenience because you can easily manoeuvre around them. As a wheelchair user, they are a bane on my existence. I’ve taken to just pushing them out of the way, often into the street. Maybe I should get a cowcatcher for my chair.

Yeah I mean, we’ve been heavily influenced by the US and UK historically, so we have a deeply racist disposition. Our treatment of Indigenous Australians is as much of a blight on our history as it is for other English-speaking nations like the US, Canada and South Africa. I do still strongly believe we’re doing better in a lot of ways, for example we’ve started using indigenous place names, acknowledging traditional land ownership and other steps. But we’re far from perfect, and if you come here with that conceptualisation then you’ll definitely be disappointed.

The thing about hyperinflation is that it’s not a “real” force that occurs simply because there is more money in the system. It entirely comes from sociological reactions to there being more money in the system, mainly wage growth and capitalists reacting to that with price growth. So without tipping your hand, you could abuse the economic system quite a lot without sparking an inflationary crisis. Certain state actors, like North Korea and China, have counterfeited US dollars without causing any inflationary issues.
