  • Hey thanks. I had always heard the joke that the majority of tech support was knowing how to phrase Google searches, but thought it was a joke…I get the sense it’s more a funny fact.

Funny enough, I’ve done the poking around bit too, both in person and more commonly now remotely. And yeah nobody has demanded anything… so far, lol. If I’m busy, or just have no clue what they’re talking about, I just say that to them and tell them to call our outsourced help desk. So far everyone just drops their head and accepts my answer then makes the call and spends the next 2 to 3 hours deciding if they really need this job.

  • I’m considered tech support for my team at work, their always saying things like “well you’re the Linux guy so you know how this stuff works”. And then I have to explain “I just use Linux, I don’t write the code, plus these are windows machines so it’s completely different issues, and lastly I just type the problem into Google read the results and then tell you what I read”

Them: well you are still tech support because I don’t know how to do that.

Me: wait you don’t know how to type into Google…no you know what fine, I’m tech support, tell management so I can get a raise.

  • I should get this for my dad, he recently got a new computer at best buy and the geek squad told him his files were all in the cloud and sent him home. Guess who got a call the next day because “all my passwords are in a word document in some fucking cloud”. Yeah that was a fun day spent setting up his computer while listening to his rant about the geek squad and “the fucking cloud”… thanks geek squad…

  • Nix is the new Arch, instead of “I use Arch by the way” it’s “I use Nix by the way”.

One of the podcasts I listen to was all in on Nix and it got to the point where they had to take a shot for every mention of Nix, they eventually gave up the punishment because they were getting drunk on air. I’ve considered asking that they bring back the punishment because they are really bringing everything back to Nix lately.

  • That’s a good way to use the tool. I generally use the OpenAI option to set up a custom gpt and tell it to become an expert on the subject I’m writing about, then set the parameters. Then once I’ve tested it on a piece of the subject matter I already understand and confirm it’s working properly, I begin asking it questions. When I’m out of questions or just need a break, I go back and check the citations for each answer just to make sure I’m not getting bad data.

Once I’ve run out of questions and all the data is verified, I have it create an outline with a brief summary of each section. Then I take that outline and use that to guide me as I write. Also it seems like the A.I. always puts at least one section in the wrong place so that’s just another reason I like to write it myself and just use an A.I. summary outline.
