Ah bummer. The good news is that I just checked how the dev team for funkwhale is moving along with the refactor at a decent pace. Right now it’s in a Release Candidate phase. Just tested it out. Can’t even see any media that I added to my funkwhale account, or listened to. This applies to music and a podcast. I hope the refactor of Funkwhale ships with a strong emphasis on federation with more ActivityPub services.

I’m on both and intend to find out. I suspect that is not possible though. You can follow your Funkwhale account from Mastodon, yet you can’t lookup and follow any mastodon accounts.
