x4 has backlight, the new ones (v5? x4.5?) dropped it again for some reason? i got an original for myself and the backlight one for my wife actually :D

a fair, didn’t read that properly! guess for tablet replacement that does sound nice, but for reading i think i’d still prefer something like the xteink (actually very curious if the size will be an issue but i always hate how heavy the paperwhite feels)

i have no data on it, but i’d honestly doubt you’d get much power savings when watching video?

also high refresh rate displays were stupidly expensive last time i checked. there is, after all, just a single company making them…

why would you run android on eink anyway? refresh rates are garbage for anything but reading and owning a distraction free device is one of the biggest upsides of ereaders, for me anyway

i did root my kindle (got it as a present) and even a terminal is horrid to use… actually just ordered an xteink and really looking forward to an unlocked bootloader from the factory ^^

the one thing that most federated platforms have over centralised structures is the possibility to migrate out of your current shitty fiefdom and the fact that the actual code is open source, so a community can make the choices about the possibilities the technology provides (which is mostly usually better than whatever a for profit company is “forced” into), whereas a centralised platform like bluesky can just ruin the codebase and keep it’s users hostage… which after all is one of the key factors to enshitification

yeh plus old should be specified probably… i got an x230 for this reason, changed 2 screens and both hdmi outs are dead (second one being on the dock)

yeh that’ll probably be it tbf… the cuda drivers are specifically for scientific computing and are pretty rubbish for anything else unfortunately… even amd ones are like that :(

however a way i found around it is to just push my gpu compute envs to docker and voila (also avoids the pain of installing the drivers cos nvidia actually provides a cuda docker image) :D
