  • EVs can’t save the environment. EVs are made from oil (tires, plastics), and the metals they are made from are extracted and shipped using huge machines also made from and burning oil.

Switching from pumping oil to mining Lithium isn’t a net improvement to the environment.

Any mode of transportation that is heavy and uses tires is going to be a major source of microplastics.

It is not possible to expand into sustainability when it’s our massive scale that is at the core of our unsustainability. Degrowth is our only chance.

  • I think the key would be to not use any additional resources to grow, harvest, etc.

This could be done for example by landscaping companies that put their waste through a retort (which could be anything from a stove made of mud bricks, to a mobile trailer that does on-site pyrolysis and use the resulting biochar to fertilize their customer’s plants. Farms could put their waste through it, innoculate the biochar with animal waste, and use it as fertilizer.

I make biochar from my backyard waste in my firepit using a can like this guy.

Any other method of carbon capture I’ve ever heard about makes no sense. Having hundreds of engineers and workers drive to work for years to engineer and build giant metal and plastic factory/machines with parking lots that require staff that has to drive and park there, etc is nonsense. And even if they work, what would they do with the carbon? Biochar provides a cycle that is accessible to everyone, can be done on-site, uses no fancy technology, nothing is patented, and doesn’t require all this nonsense.

  • I did for like two minutes, maybe I didn’t find the thing you’re talking about. It doesn’t matter, the fact that bad shit has happened under or even due to Biden doesn’t mean Trump isn’t far more dangerous. It’s a matter of degree (like would you rather be shot in the head or kicked in the nuts, they’re both bad, not equivalent), there is no option for president that is without major concern.

I’m a trans (and Mexican) person, my choice is this:

–> Keep in mind, they both support genocide in Palestine, they both will disappear people at protests, climate change will be fixed under neither of them

Trump: Has made it clear retribution is a major theme of his next presidency should he win. His base hates me with a fiery passion and would put me in an oven without a second of thought needed. If Trump wins, the likelihood that I can retain the right to housing and employment to support myself, and not get disappeared for being who I am is virtually nil.

Biden: Has maintained and even expanded rights for LGBT people. If Biden wins, there is no direct threat to my job, housing, or life. If Biden wins, I can continue taking care of my kitties, be there for my family, work to help others, I can’t help anyone or be there for anyone if I’m forced into prostitution to survive, dead, incarcerated.
