Don’t all devices have unique IDs beyond the SIM? I assume that already gets communicated, because the odds of true interchangeable anonymity seem implausible. A blacklist of devices flagged as stolen would be similarly effective and at least slightly less of a potential nightmare.

Not sure which shows you’re talking about, but the subject matter seems flexible and interesting. They’re people who can do things the audience surely cannot, and have problems the audience will never face. You can easily write them as miserable anyway for glurge points about the importance of family and whatnot.

There are other ways it might work, like if there is a method of compression that is discovered that reduces the necessary RAM and Compute needs by 2-3 orders of magnitude. So models that are considered very large today (100-300 billion params at full quality) might be able to run effectively on a single 32GB GPU that costs a few thousand dollars.

You might want to check in on how well distilled / quantized models are doing, compared to gigundo datacenter versions.
