I also went to Roman Catholic high school and college but religion was very miner. College required four religion type courses but including courses such as ethics and logic.

Negative. I was visiting Burbank CA from NYC. About 8 am on a nearly empty street. Going to get coffee I got a jaywalking ticket. I was shocked .

Tagalog. I lived with my ex-wife and her family for years. The more people in the house, the happier Mom was. They all spoke Tagalog. One day I heard my brother-in-law speaking to someone on the phone and it sounded much different. I asked him why and the call and he said he was speaking formally.

CSB: Years ago when my kid was in after school care I fixed a couple of their busted PCs. Nothing major, just made sure the hardware was OK, reinstalled Windoz, and then installed some FOSS games on them. I had enough stuff from the work scrapheap and mine to make a third. Kids loved it. I was a very-local semi-celebrity.

Just because the hardware doesn’t make the cut for heavy work doesn’t mean it cannot handle the needs of others.

Want to see crazy used car prices? Look at small Toyota trucks in southern California. The prices are insane because many people want a small basic truck for work. The 22R and 22RE engines live long and if they do die it is easy to source a rebuilt engine.

I went this route. I don’t need something powerful to scroll Lemmy and watch downloaded TV/movies.

Made sure it had two display port outputs for dual monitors. Added another 16GB of RAM because why not. It is way more than I need. Probably could have gotten away with used micro PC.

LOL. I was talking about govt cheese with a co-worker this week. My grandmother, who lived through both world wars and the great depression, would collect anything the govt was giving away. She and grandpa lived in a large home and had more than enough money to survive. She literally had a room where she stored excess food.

My ex had a very old dog that hated everyone except her and her parents. He was tiny so she brought him lots of places. People would say the puppy was cute and go in for a pet. The dog drew blood on several occasions.

I worked with someone that switched careers because his work did not align with his ethics.

He was an electrical engineer that worked with high-frequency circuits. Niche field back around 2000. He worked for a “defense” company working on missile systems.

He could not accept it morally and changed professions. I met him doing IT desk-side support at a large company.

I know he took a pay cut.

Kia/Hyundai make some good cars and some shit cars. If you get one of the shit cars you are on your own.

Kia/Hyundai also sold lots of cars the had their engines die due to manufacturing defects. They recalled some cars with the engine and not others. There was at least one class action settlement.

My wife bought 2016 Kia Soul new from the dealer. It was the highest trim level so it had an immobilizer but it had one of their troubled engines. When the engine threw a rod (that is bad) the engine was still under warranty at 60k miles only because she bought the car new. I was at the dealer and overheard another person with the Soul and a bad engine. He was out of luck because the car had over 50k miles and he was not the original owner. The Kia drivetrain warranty was good up to 100k if you were the original owner but only 50k if you were not.

You owe me the time it took to watch that.

Since it is coming from Kia I have to assume it won’t work correctly. Probably give you cancer.

See also, Boys of Summer by the Ataris, and that one’s a lot closer as Don Henley’s original is nearly as good. Some might argue better, and I wouldn’t disagree with them directly, but I prefer the cover.

I can only comment on this part. I don’t like Don Henley’s music so the cover does nothing for me.
