Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft Issues Free Update Offer To Millions Of Windows Users (ads in windows update menu)
31·3 months agoit’s just a meme … with a kernel of truth.
when running as your main OS windows very quickly gets bogged down with everything you want to run on it.
in a VM you’re only running the 1 thing you need on a fresh install, potentially a screenshot of that fresh install so it’s always running at peak.
does this make up for the host overhead? maybe … Linux has never struggled under base load for me like windows has.
I have a 4060 that shreds anything I’ve thrown at it. Linux doesn’t have a problem with anything Nvidia at the moment.
what card are you running that linux has problems with?
I would still keep 11 for work if it truly needs to be 11 and dual boot 10 IoT LTSC for games. it sounds like you’re already doing everything I would suggest to harden it besides only running a local user account.

225·3 months agoWin 10 IoT LTSC 2021 is supported until 2032. the ESU is literally just security updates they will be doing anyway.
if you have any windows software that can’t be replaced and needs to be online running IoT is one solution.
protip: Windows runs faster under a VM in Linux than on bare metal. True facts.
passable surround sound
is it though?
The kicker is that music suffers from the exact same copyright system. The big labels could absolutely start their own walled garden if they wanted.

42·6 months agoRian Johnson is a master of deconstructing genres.
if you went this long without watching it I won’t spoil it but to say the themes are not typical of the rest of the franchise and the fans hated it for that.

5·6 months agoI mean it’s a high budget Disney film, the script should be the only place for improvement.

195·6 months agoThe Last Jedi was an amazing deconstruction of Star Wars. I don’t think better execution would have helped it with a fan base that wants to be stuck in the past reliving the hero’s journey ad nauseam but it had a lot more potential than you see on screen.
