GeForce 256 on my first Windows computer when I went to college. Before that, I was using motherboard graphics on a series of Macs growing up.

The idea was one computer on the LAN would hold the “talking stick” (the token) and transmit whatever data it needed to, then pass the token off to the next computer in the ring. If a computer received the token and didn’t have anything to transmit, it’d just pass on the token. The problem would be detecting when one of the computers in the loop had gone offline or crashed and taken the token with it. After some amount of time with no traffic, some system was responsible for generating a new token and an amended turn order. Similar problems existed when a new computer wanted to get added to the rotation.

Interesting use of terms. In Discworld Dwarven society, being lowborn would be a good thing and while being high born is only one step below surface dweller. Few people buy these sort of books to read them. The way these things usually work is wealthy donors buy these books in bulk. Because they’re buying something, not donating to the campaign, it doesn’t go against donation caps. Also, unlike political campaign contributions, there’s also no restriction on who can buy a book, so it’s a way for foreigners to get money to a candidate. Either MTG has gotten a lot of money she shouldn’t have, and doesn’t want to disclose it, or she doesn’t have many rich friends left, and doesn’t want to embarrass herself.

I don’t get why so many people begrudge YouTube for trying make money. They serve up 5TB of video data every second. Somebody’s got to pay for all of that. They know ads suck, that’s why they sell no ad subscriptions.

We used unused punchcards to make flashcards in elementary school in the late 80’s / early 90’s. I guess the county bought a bunch and had to find another use.

And now I realize the primary definition of flashcard has changed since then, from study aid to digital storage.
