The socialist left of Europe wants a UBI, forced dismantlement of megacorps in favour of cooperatives, harsh wealth taxes on net worth, separation of investment and commercial banking and so on. In comparison, Bernie wants a functional public healthcare system, and US oligarchs to pay at least some taxes.

The problem is that it kneecaps the experience for people who newly join, because they get faced with an unopposed blender of fascist propaganda, and may be immediately turned off the whole platform.

That’s the ecosystem. WordPress itself is pretty basic, these things attack plugins, and their often not-very-experienced creators and users. The thing with WordPress is that this kind of vulnerability comes with the problem space, not the particular solution. If there was a different product in the same space, it would not fare better by default.

Also, I’d bet that a ton of CVEs are filed for C++ libraries, yet nobody is harping on about how insecure C++ is.

There’s a huge industry of people making wordpress sites who shouldn’t.

And this is why I hate the state of the whole hacking scene and that now nation states are also carrying out en masse attacks. Everyone should be free to make a site on Wordpress or whatever. If they can’t, that’s how we get everyone on like 3 corporate platforms like Facebook.

I’d guess it’s not because of the inherent insecurity of WordPress, but the sheer size of the ecosystem and the fact that like 40% of the Internet is WordPress sites.

To me, the whole article seems like the US justice system coming apart at the seams because of it having two publics with two sets of norms.

It actually makes total sense. Since the real constituency of most politicians who they actually are responsible to are big corporate interests, there is no point polling people, just poll Google, Meta and the like.

These people are just caricatures of themselves.

Yeah, if you ask Hungary, one party is enough, they can manufacture your consent and tell you what your opinions are just fine.

Two party systems are just for hippies who want to believe they can change anything important while they get a show of tug of war on issues no politician really cares about.

Except we would grab loans from our banker friends who are also in on the scheme, and use some of that money to pay taxes and buy some congresscritters to avoid further taxes. The banker guys would then grab some loans themselves, preferably also from each other, as they slowly repackage the whole thing and then sell it to retirement funds to make it everyone else’s problem. /s

It is the East China Sea not the East sea of China, however much the PRC wants it to be so. It includes territorial waters of South Korea, North Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and China, as well as a whole bunch of freely navigable international waters.

By this logic, the Indian Ocean would belong to India, and the Atlantic to Greece since they got to name it first.
