Well, lobbyists work not only for evil corpos, but also for NGOs and movements… Lobbyism is the process to sway politics to a direction through interpersonal meetings, and is necessarily in a democracy.

However, one thing that would benefit the US is transparency around lobbyists; who they are, how they are funded, their agenda etc. The EU has a database on registered lobbyists and the transparency helps with parts of the problem.

Fzf is so useful its ridiculous. I recreated the functionality of sshs with fzf and a small bash script.

How does screen / tmux work when detached from a session, how does it keep the session alive (both when running locally, and while ssh:ing to a server)? Is there a daemon involved?

Try zellij. Not as popular as tmux, but very intuitive to use.

Whatever model you buy, avoid the newer L-series.

To be more concrete: security keys can communicate over USB or NFC. Just make sure it supports the protocol you want to use it for.

But there is also passkeys which is both software- and hardware based and is almost equally secure.

I am, specially after seeing how well it was implemented in the nightly version. It can’t be compared to an extension that enables the same capability.

Matrix, xmpp, IRC or even rocketchat are better alternatives.

I got my kid on Gcompris when she was 2.5 year old, and noticed a lot of rough edges UX wise. Small things on how feedback was given to a kid, or the lack of separation between games depending on how suitable they were for different ages.

Still, I choose Gcompris any day over apps design around maximizing endorphin rewards and data collection. I just wish there were more quality FOSS games for toddlers.

I was a pocketcast user for years, switched to antennapod a few months ago. Here’s what’s bothering me:

• Antennapod has a weird separation between new episodes (inbox) and what you’re listening to now (queue). PC has that abstracted away where you only have to check one place for your podcasts.
• There is no simple service to sync your subscriptions and listen progress. Gpoddersync is basically abandoned and the protocol lacks features. Hopefully this will change with openpodcastAPI, but they haven’t managed to secure funding yet.
• I’ve been spoilt by having a server doing the heavy lifting of refreshing my podcasts. It’s a minor annoyance that I need to wait approx. 1.5 second per feed to refresh. It’s just the way it is.

There are also things that antennapod does better:

• chapters actually works in AP.
• episode pictures also works in AP, PC only showed the static image of the feed.
• search is just as good as PC.
• its FOSS and hopefully resistant to enshittification (unless all producers go into a closed ecosystem like Spotify tried with their recent purchases of pod-studios).

Out of curiousity, how would nohup make your situation different? As I understand, nohup makes it possible to keep terminal applications running even when the terminal session has ended.
