6 years ago, first of all.
Second, this project has transitioned literally everything away from that.
It literally has no relevant point.
Just someone ranting against shit they known nothing about, your link going further to prove that point.
We got that. It literally provides no backstory or proof to any claims made though.
Like you just quoted something…okay, so if that’s the case, links, because it would be publicly known.
Dude…y’all are dumb as hell. If this isn’t written by AI, I’ll eat my hat.
This dumbshit posted an article about something that confused a searchable VC firm called “Matrix”. This has zero to do with the Matrix.org that I think(?) it is intended to talk about.
Simple proof: the word “venture” is mentioned just once in the entire post, and it can’t dig deeper into any other claims it makes.
This is simply a post confusing “Matrix Partners”, and using readily available information about that company, and trying to transpose it on Matrix.org which is not the same thing.
AI has truly killed the internet.
just_another_person@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Matrix.org is Introducing Premium AccountsEnglish466·2 days agoPlease don’t be that person that runs in here, didn’t read the thing, and writes multiple paragraphs of stupidity. Just don’t do it.
You’re not “funding this guy’s lifestyle” (love how you assume it’s a guy). You’re paying a person a less than fair wage when they can be getting twice the money elsewhere for the same role.
This person is taking a drastic pay cut to run things AS THEIR JOB. It’s how they pay for things, and have kids, and a life. You’re making the assumption they are somehow bilking money out of this, and that’s not the case from that dollar amount.
You also didn’t seem to understand that because it’s a non-profit custodial arm of the project, that they are the ones keeping it alive for people like to bitch about this person making a salary ffs. Jeebus, some people, how dare they.
just_another_person@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Matrix.org is Introducing Premium AccountsEnglish12012·2 days agoDepends on what that title actually means. Viewing it as a pie chart skews it so you don’t realize that $170k in USD is pretty mediocre for a Director of Engineering role. If the project dies without this person, and that’s what they need in salary to make it worth it to keep them there, then that’s what they get paid.
It’s not like they’re even making an obscene amount of money ffs. That’s a middling engineering salary, and this person is running the whole show. You should see what other “director” jobs at much shittier companies get paid. I think twice this amount would be a weak guess. If this person was a prick, they’d be milking that goat and taking all the free money.
This is an open source project backed by a non-profit foundation, granted, but this person is taking a massive pay cut just by working this job. Think about how that might impact their life to make that choice while trying to have a family.
$170k salary still won’t you a fucking house in this country unless you live in the middle of nowhere, and this person is almost certainly in a major tech hub city, so that money means diddly when trying to pay the bills. It’s barely above the poverty line in Silicon Valley after taxes for reference.
Everyone in here complaining because they make half this and think it’s a lot of money because they live in Bumfuck, Idaho has no idea what it costs to live in the larger tech hubs around the world.

The title is definitely not as described, only applies to Windows (I think), and won’t work without a permissions escalation.
The only reason it’s classified as a CVE is because they requested it be such.
There are no payload attacks proven here, or PoC attack code. This person has been posting pretty basic “hacks” for a few years, and makes a mountain out of an anthill every damn time.
🙄 Ugh

The reason Apple is literally spending billions of dollars globally fighting against government mandates for opening their ecosystem to third-party app stores is not because of their usability, it’s because they know they have an on-par product with a high profit margin and intend to keep that way instead of doing actual innovation to differentiate their products.
As you even said, there is no difference between them now, so just existing to enhance profits is not a good reason to keep doing things as they are.
just_another_person@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Apple’s Craig Federighi on the long road to the iPad’s Mac-like multitaskingEnglish22·4 days agoThe simplest difference is a company that cripples their products to ensure they keep profit margins and $1 TRILLION in the bank.
It’s not a better product, it’s just a profit machine.

And also I was at WWDC 2019 where they literally said in a Q&A they weren’t making developer tools available for iOS because they wanted people to use MacOS for development.
There is literally no difference in software between any of them anymore, except the manufactured kneecaps that they won’t allow certain devices to produce under.
Android had all this over a decade ago. It’s just a fact.

Apple F’d this up way back when they had divergent builds between phone and tablet OS treatments because they were afraid the iPad would impact MacBook sales. They nerfed the entire device line by restricting memory for this exact reason. Not even mentioned once in this article.
