I’m on Bazzite after giving the other ublue flavours a try. It took a couple of weeks to get comfortable with the new philosophy, but now I can’t see myself going back. What felt like limitations at first, now feels like good habits. All my dev work is done in containers, so it just makes sense.

A camelbak vest under a regular jacket would probably do the trick.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•[US] What happens when the government shuts down, and if it stays down, what do we do?
14·2 months agoIn Westminster-like systems, I believe this would be loss of supply, where it’s expected to trigger an election. It seems to work well as an incentive for governments to do their bloody job, but I’m sure they would find a way to abuse or ignore it.
Because you already switched, right? Right!?

1·2 months agoIt’s not all Australians, but those who do it are all over social media for some reason.

2·2 months agoI’ve been rolling up my clothes for years. I thought it would leave wrinkles, but it doesn’t. So much faster than folding, and much easier to pack when travelling.

3·2 months agoI think strong/static typing with inference is the sweet spot. Complex types can change, so it helps to at least have your boundaries well defined. Within the scope of a function, if you need explicit typing on everything then your function might be getting too complex.
Or just the size of the largest input?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•People who prepared costumes for Halloween: how much money/effort did you put in it?
9·3 months agoI live in a part of the world that doesn’t usually celebrate Halloween much, but last year our street made an effort. It seems people noticed because this year someone decided to hold a themed market here, and there was a big turnout. I think it’s becoming a thing for the town now.
My neighbour is getting seriously into 3D printing and made lots of cool toys that he gave away instead of food. That was cool to see, because he’s been struggling a bit since his wife died, and he was never very community-oriented, but having something like this brought out his good side.
I reused a wizard costume from a fantasy fair earlier this year. Hung a pumpkin full of treats from the end of my staff, and rode around on my electric unicycle for a bit, giving them away. Any bit of novelty is valid if it’s in the right spirit. That’s what I like about Halloween.
You can’t really go wrong if you wear something that works for you. High or low effort, it’s all good.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a genre of music you're waiting to have a resurgence?
17·3 months agoI thought metal was more popular than ever. Maybe my perception is skewed because I’ve been going to plenty of metal festivals in recent years, but all the subgenres have representation from what I can see.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I am doing DMT for the first time, what should I do to prepare?
6·3 months agoYou know your stuff for someone who hasn’t partaken.
I’ve done ayahuasca but not regular old DMT. Those are the main points I would have suggested.
Adding to that, allow plenty of time to process the experience after the trip has ended. I journaled it, which helped make sense of it all, especially parts that felt disconnected from normal perceptions.
Music you vibe with will help too. Some of the music that accompanied my experience was a bit overwhelming and magnified parts that I didn’t enjoy. I had to take myself outside to ground again (if you can call communing with the stars grounding).

Technology@lemmy.world•Disney Plus Subscribers Quit in Droves Over Jimmy Kimmel AxeEnglish
7·4 months agoNetflix is the only one I have left now, and that’s only because I share the account with multiple people, so it’s more like 1/4 of a subscription. If I cancelled they would end up with more subscribers.
You’re right to be concerned. Something similar happened in my family, and it did not end well at all.
The ages were more like 16 and 36, which is legal here, and her family supported it, but that didn’t stop the grooming accusations. When the relationship failed (which is very likely when one partner has very little life experience), his reputation was ruined. He was severely beaten by other men who thought they were protecting her, and he was effectively run out of town.
However they might feel now, not everyone will see it the same way. This has consequences.
Same, after I tried all the other Fireforks. It was last on the list because of the non-serious name and logo, but damnit it’s the most stable and has sensible defaults that don’t get in my way.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's up with not being able to use your skills when someone is watching?
1·4 months agoI get this from observing myself.
Like if I don’t think about it at all I can touch-type, but the moment I’m aware of it I need to look at the keyboard.

19·5 months agoChipmunks did it for me. They look and act so much like cartoon critters I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

I stopped using Windows on my own machines many years ago. It was probably about the time when the games I was playing ran well enough, so dual booting was just taking up space I could use.
