Recreating scientific studies that have been funded by large corporations is very difficult and disproving or countering any findings are less common because to apply the scientific method properly is beyond skill and know how, it’s down to money.

Could be a bad washer leaking oil into the wash. Had this happen in an apartment block with shared laundry. One machine did this, the other didn’t.

“Generating” $117m, or allocating ad revenue and watch hours to these videos? Because it sounds like businesses will pay for advertisements to see numbers go up, and if numbers go up then people think ads are working. This whole economy is stupid because unless the money is coming from a consumer then it’s false. If the only thing being consumed is content, the ads are simply a hurdle that people love to keep throwing in the way and propping up this shit content. At some point market economics needs to win and balance things out and advertisers need to check their ROI, but that will never happen because new metrics will be made to justify the marketing teams or 3rd party consultants these companies are paying to put out these ads.
If there was a filter for “unmonetised” this house of cards would fall on its ass. Real people uploading real content to share for real consumers to enjoy and view.
Before monthly subscriptions there were yearly ones of several thousands of dollars, and before that it was a huge lump sum in the tens of thousands for most software with one off costs which in some cases included purchasing proprietary hardware to actually use the software. Subscriptions and start up entry costs have always been bad.
The legal way is to be affiliated with an educational institution as they take on those costs and you can use the software they purchase. Or in some cases you get access to educational licenses to learn a software that you can then credit to your portfolio and CV so you can be employable.
Though these days free open source and piracy are easier than ever, so it’s more about finding a workflow with a set of tools that you can do what you need to do, to create what only you can create which in the end is what will set you out from the rest.
It’s rare these days that someone is going to ask for files in a proprietary format, so it’s actually easier to produce a result that someone is able to consume, technically speaking.
