  • I am an european resident and home owner in Spain and living here full time (I’ve moved here with my family around 5 years ago) and I agree with its citizens. Vacation homes have been a nuisance on peoples lives for a whole now for multiple reasons:

    1. Airbnbs are atrocious to communities and to people who actually live there full time ( even if community laws exists and ate voted for by the majority of owners, others simply don’t respect them)
    2. Lots of tourists are notoriously known for not giving a fuck about anyone or anything and having a bratty behavior toward everyone else.
    3. Because of point 1 low to middle class spaniards can barely -or simply not- afford homes anymore.
    4. Far right extremism is growing because of government not being able to handle outside EU immigration properly and basically everyone who doesn’t share the same values, just segregate themselves into ethnic groups, making it harder for both sides to mingle.
    5. I’ve seen it with my own eyes how, when a place raises in notoriety, it also raises in unlawful behavior by attracting pickpockets or other unlawful behavior or simply squatters, who are historically a huge pain on everyone( okupas)

All of the above is ofc IMO and subjected to dispute, but this is a general feeling among a lot of people.

  • I don’t think it’s that black&white really, plus the title is somewhat clickbaity. The article quotes ““At the moment, I am against Ukraine’s entry into the European Union,” Polish President-elect Karol Nawrocki told Hungarian outlet Mandiner in an interview released on June 7.

"On the one hand, we must support Ukraine in its conflict with the Russian Federation, but Ukraine must understand that other countries, including Poland, Hungary, and other European countries, also have their own interests”.

The guy is not pro-russian, but opposes Ukraine currently joining EU. Ukraine also has to join EU following procedures, like every other country has, historically.

  • Sure, I mean technically paypal was a rather innovative idea for its time, but again, the guy basically associated himself with smart people that had bright ideas.

Yes, he does have a knack for growing businesses to a larger scale, but most millionaires/ billionaires do, cause they outsource brain matter and decision making to a select few.

I’m not sure if I ever liked the guy or his largely exaggerated marketing, but being a POS nazi isn’t helping either, so i’m biased towards nazi hate I guess. Either way, he will need a paradigm shift for people to accept him back into the decent human beings club. I do hope he will find a way, but doubt it really.

don’t forget the rudeness of some people. they behave like the whole building is a hotel and they can do whatever they damn well please.

If it were up to me, I would obliterate this concept. Hotels are for holidays, not people’s houses where everyone brings along their holiday brains and are being generally disrespectful towards the communities.

  • Our european leaders have gotten lazier and lazier over time, with eastern block countries heavily affected by corruption and populist nationalistic propaganda has been spreading like wildfire recently.

It’s time to get off our high horse and start investing in ourselves more and stop looking up to anyone else. They are not better than us, they were made to appear so and we’ve been just taking everything at face value.

We have both the manpower and the resources, we just need to be more united and support and push for more relevant policies in our countries.

Dunno, maybe it’s wishful thinking , but I just don’t want to be defined by what other countries say or do. We have to think for ourselves.
