I know it’s not exactly what you’re asking for but fedora is reaaaally nice. I don’t think I’ve had a single “unstable” package and it’s kept up to date really well. The only concern I have with it is red hat, I’m just hoping they don’t decide to enshittify

I grew up on macOS, until a few years ago where I actually had my own personal computer for the first time, which had windows pre installed, so i used that and like it a lot more than macOS, i just felt so much more free, and the general workflow felt more intuitive to me, then, early this year, i switched to Linux and there’s no way in hell I’ll ever go back. In just a couple months I learned more about how computers worked than I did over something like 12 years of using computers as a teen. It’s really crazy to me how once you get something set up on Linux, it just works, and all of the documentation is open and detailed!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's something that, after you had it, you immediately wanted another?
6·3 months agoIf I had to take a guess, it’s probably from the voltage of the battery, if you have a volt meter/multimeter you can test out how the batteries work before putting them in

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Hypothetical-- you can only choose two cuisines to eat for the rest of your life. What might they be?
6·3 months ago1: something East Asian; Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Thai. I’d be happy with any of them, I just can’t decide.
2: something Hispanic/South American, basically just Mexican food.
With any two in those categories there’s enough variety for me to spend my life eating

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone have suggestions for buying a webcam?
2·3 months agoYep! I wrote this post right at the start of my search, so I didn’t realize a lot of cameras had detachable cables since mine definitely doesn’t!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone have suggestions for buying a webcam?
3·3 months agoOoooo, this looks really promising! I’m a little sketched out by the low price, it seems like a too good to be true kind of thing, but I might actually go with this! I’ll let this post simmer for a bit longer to see if there’s anything else that’s just perfect, but this might take the cake!

4·3 months agoThat does look quite impressive! Probably out of my budget for now but I’ll keep that in mind if I feel like I need something with every bell and whistle!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone have suggestions for buying a webcam?
2·3 months agoHmmm, I have an old iPhone 5 that might do the trick, @AstralPath@lemmy.ca was suggesting something similar with my actual phone, but using this might work out, I’ll have to test it in a few minutes after the battery has charged a little
Edit: Looks like it’s actually broken beyond belief, the touchscreen barely works and the home button doesn’t at all. Definitely a no go.

4·3 months agoI currently have an iPhone, which has some similar things to DroidCam, but I’d rather not use it like that. On that note, https://vdo.ninja/ is a cool website. The GoPro knock off idea might be good, it looks like the Apemans are sold out right now, but I might try something similar if I don’t get any better suggestions. Thank you!

6·3 months agoOh good lord I hate when they do that shit, ESPECIALLY online textbooks! I’m in uni right now and Jesus Christ it’s like every online textbook thinks I wanna make a comment when I highlight shit. Piracy is literally a better user experience

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you use to make your home smell good?
19·4 months agoI use nothing, I don’t feel like fighting a never ending battle. But maybe you could try getting some flowering plants around your house to give it a floral scent

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Seems like the perfect day to ask: Muricans, what's your dream country to expatriate to? Non-Muricans, what's the thought on accepting US refugees?
15·5 months agoProbably Finland, or another Nordic country. Idk, I just like the cold and the woods and figure those oughtta fit the bill
