OpenStreetMap community@lemmy.ml•OpenStreetMap satellite view?English
2·4 months agoFor OSM, such chunk storage might be considered a rendering. It could be akin to “converting” an SVG file to a GIF, with whichever anti-aliasing choices.
The most basic building block of OSM, the node, has only longitude and latitude. Few objects are tagged with ele or height, or other vertical tags (e.g. layer, building:levels, covered, incline, embankment, support).

OpenStreetMap community@lemmy.ml•The Third Place Index - a project which combines OSM and US Census data to score the availability of "third places" nationwide.English
1·8 months agoFor me, methodology would be quantitative methods used to calculate the dataset’s (csv file’s) values (Download the Dataset), which I might be able to provide for specific outputs. Your invocation of the term (“how it is measured”) could differ; in that case please further explain what you’re seeking?

CoMaps is a fork of Organic Maps, not a fork of OpenStreetMap. There are dozens if not hundreds of apps that use OpenStreetMap data.
An actual fork of OSM is FOSM which declined to switch from CC-BY-SA to ODbL.
StreetComplete has recently removed the concrete plates option due to potential confusion, for what it’s worth.
SCEE (StreetComplete expert edition) is available with additional quests (especially for those with domain knowledge) and customization for experienced mappers. It includes a quest “What is the genus or species of this tree?” among others. Please see its FAQ.
Wouldn’t sorting be a reason to have date first not second?
My own suggestion: italicize “Online” and put into parentheses or brackets in lowercase, as it’s a description, not a name. I don’t know if that (italics) is easily available in other languages though. Benefit: Online column could be removed.

OpenStreetMap community@lemmy.ml•Mapping the surface of pedestrian crossingEnglish
1·1 year agoI, too, would use 3 as the stub before the kerb isn’t actually crossing the road (e.g. one could walk to kerb, turn around, and go back without stepping a foot into the road proper). Similar to mapping the pedestrian refuge portion of a footway between carriage ways as
footway=traffic_islandinstead offootway=crossing.
OP is probably using Graphene with OsmAnd.
Relevant xkcd: Duty Calls
The capitalization for OsmAnd should be corrected. Please?

OpenStreetMap community@lemmy.ml•What details are "worth" mapping?English
1·1 year agoHave they/you seen an interesting rendering (other than editing tools and perhaps Overpass queries) for man_made=manhole? Taginfo lists just one project and that one (Straßenraumkarte Neukölln) seems pretty limited in geographic scope (only Berlin?).
