Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Just curious but are we heading towards an "eat the rich" society?
5·1 year agoThank you for taking the patience to put this into words so nicely! I really appreciate your perspective. Maybe I was being too rude calling Republicans “dumb”, I apologize. I guess I’m just as angry as many other people at seeing the proposed Republican plans (especially “slashing public spending” a.k.a. reducing social welfare) and seeing people actually vote for that.
Yeah, people in the US want change. I’m not sure what would be a productive and viable proposal that doesn’t completely fuck up the country. I’m European and have a non-interference policy for myself when it comes to the internals of the US. In other words, I don’t want to meddle too much with what’s going on in the US.

I guess we should be, but that’s just my personal opinion.
Realistically, no. The people have clearly expressed how dumb they are and what they desire in the November election. They want dumb Republicans, they get asshole CEOs. I don’t see it any other way.
Honestly, I believe voting is the best way to bring change about a society that wants to change. It’s just that I have given up the thought that the US wants to change in the direction that I would go. So no, it’s not gonna happen.

Technology@lemmy.world•Why Google Search is Falling Apart.English
345·1 year agowithout watching the video - google search is falling apart because there’s a lot of shit content, a lot of bad articles being written.
and there’s a lot of bad articles being written because there’s a lot of authors that just want to make money from advertising, without actually caring about the content. in other words, it’s advertising’s fault that the quality of content is dropping. and ironically, it’s mostly google’s fault that advertisement on the internet got so big as it is today.

11·1 year agoI guess people are afraid of sending E-mails and doing phone-calls for this reason.
The fear of accidentally pasting a porn-link into an email is immense. So much that I clear my copy-clipboard regularly, just to be double-sure.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Are modern LLMs closer to AGI or next word predictor? Where do they fall in this graph with 10 on x-axis being human intelligence.
1·1 year agoThat would be true if the world is hollow.
But we know it is not.

4·1 year agoAre you interested in this from a philosophical perspective or from a practical perspective?
From a philosophical perspective:
It depends on what you mean by “intelligent”. People have been thinking about this for millennia and have come up with different answers. Pick your preference.
From a practical perspective:
This is where it gets interesting. I don’t think we’ll have a moment where we say “ok now the machine is intelligent”. Instead, it will just slowly and slowly take over more and more jobs, by being good at more and more tasks. And just so, in the end, it will take over a lot of human jobs. I think people don’t like to hear it due to the fear of unemployedness and such, but I think that’s a realistic outcome.
You might also be interested in the Panopticon.
In humans, there’s good things and there’s bad things. But most of it is actually in-between.
If you take out everything bad, that satisfies you for the moment. And then you go on, looking for further progress. You take out the almost-bad, the somewhat-bad. In the end, it leaves only the good. But that is not enough for a human to live on.
Constant surveillance leads to burnout and extremely high stress-levels.

Technology@lemmy.world•Why are people seemingly against AI chatbots aiding in writing code?English
519·1 year ago
People are in denial. AI is going to take programmer’s jobs away, and programmers perceive AI as a natural enemy and a threat. That is why they want to discredit it in any way possible.
Honestly, I’ve used chatGPT for a hundred tasks, and it has always resulted in acceptable, good-quality work. I’ve never (!) encountered chatGPT making a grave or major error in any of the questions that I asked it (physics and material sciences).

i’m not particular what you would call a normal guy and i have a lot of edgy views, but my take on this is simply that the main and by far number one reason why you’re not supposed to talk to women nowadays is because social media has instilled an outright fear of men in women.
you see, women are naturally very intelligent and pick up signals, even small ones, fast. if they see a hundred social media posts a day, and even one of them says something like “men are bad, keep away from them”, they will take the warning very seriously, even though there might be not much of a good reasoning behind it. maybe whoever wrote that social media post was only a crazy christian and was saying it because she was worried about staying “pure”. there are unfortunately christian people out there who think that “morale” and stuff like “staying pure [from men flirting with women]” are more important than understanding the social needs of the people. such is religion. over the internet it spreads like crazy. that’s why the women are all afraid of men. to which i respond with this meme:
(which means as much as: the fear is artificial and instilled; look at the actual predators. it is the rich)
My advice for you is: stay careful, as there are crazy “feminists” out there, who are only looking for a “catch”. For example, they want to test their “critique” on someone, and try to hurt you simply because they’re looking for a fight. but also, you must understand that only your heart will carry you forward, so you must listen to it. it is a difficult path to walk, but maybe you can try it.
