Like I said, I’m sensitive to low frame rates and really notice it. Like I’m watching video that is stuttery.

I know people have a “feel” to cinema that they enjoy and I have no issue with that, but I like the feel of smooth motion. It’s something you should absolutely be able to turn off though.

There, I said it. I’m glad it’s a feature you can disable so everyone can be happy, but I find 30fps choppy and distracting. Maybe I play too many video games, but high frame rates are the norm on PC. Hell, frame generation is a big feature now, but that’s a topic for another day.

Those basic safe driving techniques are based on ideal conditions. Take the three second lead for example, that’s on dry roads with good visibility. You wouldn’t follow that close if it was icy, because now your reaction time is not going to be enough, you have less control over the road so you must increase your follow distance.

Driving drunk is the same, your reaction time is now slower so again three seconds isn’t enough. You don’t have the same control over your body and alertness, so you need to drive even slower and more cautiously.

Now you’re the odd one out. Your overly cautious driving will confuse the people driving around you because it’ll be less predictable and odd. They’ll try to pass you causing the chance of accidents to increase.

This is long winded, but the point is you simply aren’t at your prime when you’re driving impared. Be it high, drunk, sleep deprived, etc, you shouldn’t on the road in that state as you increase the risk for everyone else. I urge you to reconsoder before you hurt yourself or someone else.

I agree with some of your points, but I you should try rewriting your age gap paragraph. It’s very hard to understand and in your 15/18 year old example I think you end up saying the opposite of what you intend.

Also pedophilia has a specific definition and is not interchangeable with underage. It’s specifically for prepubescent attractions.

Do you differentiate between people who purchased their pets vs rescue, or do you see all pet owners as the same?

I think owning pets in our modern urban lives doesn’t make sense like it used to, but I have always had pets and do enjoy them. Every single one has been a rescue though. I could not personally justify supporting breeders and pets as an industry.

Yup, Valve is still in it for the money of course, but the customer really does come first. I’ve used their support a few times and they’ve always been stellar. I will always buy Valve products.

There are a few, the sofabaton is probably the closest to the cheaper harmony remotes, but it’s configured via an app that requires login so not sure how long that will last.

There are other companies that are targeting the high end remotes too ($300+) but they all appear to be based on android and get very poor battery life.

Agreed! I’d say it’s moved from advanced to tinkerer level now, where if you have a use case and know it’s limitations, it can be pretty neat.

Voice control of devices you have in home assistant is cool, but I don’t think I would recommend it to an average person who uses Google assistant. Sure it can turn the lights on and off if it’s aware of those entities, but this user is describing playing games, asking for media streams, podcasts, all things home assistant voice does not support (certainly not out of the box).

Thunder also allows user tags. Highly recommend it.

Therapy is well and good and I think we need far more avenues available for people to get help (for all issues). That said, sexuality and attraction are complicated.

Let me start by saying I am not trying to state there is a 1:1 equivalence, this is just a comparison, but we have long abandoned conversion therapy for homosexuals, because we’ve found these preferences are core to them and not easily overwritten. The same is true for me as a straight person, I don’t think therapy would help me find men attractive. I have to imagine the same is true for pedophiles.

The question is, if AI can produce pornography that can satisfy the urges of someone with pedophilia without harming any minors, is that a net positive? Remember the attraction is not the crime, it’s the actions that harm others that are. Therapy should always be on the table.

This is a tricky subject because we don’t want to become thought police, so all our laws are built in that manner. However there are big exceptions for sexual crimes due to the gravity of their impact on society. It’s very hard to “stand up” for pedophilia because if acted upon it has monstrous effects, but AI is making us open this can of worms that I don’t belive we ever really thought through besides criminalizing and demonizing (which could be argued was the correct approach with the technology at the time).

I stand corrected. It seems odd to me that you would relegate all data transfer to the inaudible range, as you’ll have a lot less bandwidth to work with and will likely hit issues with compression technologies that are designed to filter those frequencies out.

I guess the designers didn’t want it to sound so offputting like dial-up did. Still seems odd to me and I’m not surprised it failed my initial sniff test.

I imagine it would sound a lot more like a dialup modem if it were real as we got pretty good at sending data over audio channels back then. Likely that standard that already exists could be used.

Current platforms like Lemmy are NOT ready for massive amounts of users. They have very poor moderation controls, no effective strategy to combat bots, and no money to pay people for it.

The only reason Lemmy is usable right now is because it has nerdy people using it in good faith. If it were to gain critical mass it would collapse under the deluge of trolls and bots.

It’s a quaint little place, and I like it for being that.

Thank you, I did a quick google but all I was seeing was articles explaining difference between an LED and a laser, none were saying you could use LEDs to make a laser.
