As someone who grew up bilingual, this has caused so much unnecessary confusion in my life. Maybe not queso so much but salsa, which is the word for any kind of sauce in Spanish. If I’m running on autopilot and my wife asks me to pick up tomato salsa I will almost invariably get spaghetti sauce. It’s fucked!

On the way back to bed I accidentally tripped on a piece of furniture I didn’t see. When I turned on the light my pinky toe was bent in a right angle. Had to have it reset and taped up but since it was my right foot I couldn’t drive for several weeks. Every day I just thought how stupid and avoidable this whole mess was.
emogu@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What was the scariest nightmare you remember having?1·1 month agoThat’s actually not an uncommon experience when you have sleep paralysis. Normally when you sleep your body paralyzes itself so you don’t hurt yourself when you’re unconscious. The paralysis ends when you wake up but sometimes you can partway regain consciousness while the paralysis is still in effect. And for some fucking reason when that happens we tend to hallucinate a tall dark figure leaning over us. A “sleep paralysis demon”. So between being asleep, paralyzed awake, and awake, plus the dream/hallucination it feels very real.
I’ve had it once or twice and the last time I remember it the figure would raise a fist over his head and bring it down onto my chest, but stop just short of actually hitting me. He did it a few times seemingly testing the effectiveness of my paralysis. Then I woke up. It was utterly terrifying. Back then I would set my clothes and shoes out for the next day on a chair next to my bed. I noticed the next morning the shoes had been kicked over towards the bed like some had been standing next to it. But I couldn’t remember exactly how they were set out the night before… still creeped me the fuck out for a while.
Holy shit who hurt you

The GOP has been a giant grift since at least Reagan. A loooot of people out there can’t tell when they’re getting scammed.
It’s one reason why educated voters tend to be further left on the political spectrum.
Another vote for Affinity. Excellent Adobe alternatives 1-time reasonable price. Such a breath of fresh air after so many subs.

But as a dude with a job and family I just don’t have the time anymore. Apple is far from perfect but their security/privacy efforts are the lesser of the evils for almost no extra time/thinking required from me so they’re the ideal option for now. Really hope all these laws don’t muck that up.

Just like Sony, Xbox, Nintendo, Steam, etc. They take 30% in exchange for exposure, security, and a reliable platform. It’s a trade off. Worth it to some, not to others.
Meanwhile they remove the social features that people DO like and use like watch together
As long as you have PP, users streaming remotely from your server can do so without PP (or the mobile app unlock). The client user charge is only for accessing servers that don’t have PP. Still insane they’re charging anything at all for streaming private content from a private server to a private client though.
Thank god for jellyfin. I have a feeling plex would have gone a lot harder with this update if there was no competition.
While I agree with this sentiment on the surface, using a privacy focused application that was built by folks who yield to cops as part of their identity doesn’t inspire long term viability in that space.
It’s the same reason I moved away from Proton when their CEO told us all where his values lie. It’s not outright backtracking on privacy promises but with so many comparable alternatives in this space, why chance it with the bootlickers?

Just saying you might never change your mind and that’s ok. But also if a kid came into your life somehow, don’t panic! It might be ok
emogu@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•People in their 40s and 50s with no children, how does it feel?3·8 months agoAs someone who didn’t want kids and then had them later in life, your mind doesn’t really change until after you have them. That’s when I was like Oh
At least that’s what it was like for me. Plenty of people’s minds never change even after kids sadly.

You’re getting downvoted for telling a truth no one wants to hear. But magnetic interference is why Valve abandoned Hall effect for steam deck after a bunch of field tests. You can mod other handheld PCs like ROG Ally and people who do report the same thing. Hall effect is great for standalone controllers but totally incompatible with handhelds.
But implying that Nintendo cheaped out again regarding its most infamous complaint about the last console is a much better way to get clicks on your site. There’s a million other things worth raking Nintendo over the coals for, but skipping on hall effect ain’t it.
