161·1 month agoRemember when OpenAI launched Dall-E 2? You got a few tokens for free images and then had to pay for it. Presumably that was at least some reflection on the cost of producing the images.
Now you can create video for free and consumer expectations that generative AI should be super cheap have been set. That genie is not going to go easily back into the bottle.

11·2 months agoThis has ‘Late Late Breakfast Show’ vibes. Those around in the 80’s in the UK will probably remember the Noel Edmond’s variety show, a precursor to Noel’s House Party. They had members of the public do stunts. There were regular concerns about safety and eventually someone died.

This is the thing I don’t understand about businesses like Cursor. They take two other companies products (Claude and VS Code) and smash them together and sell the result at a loss. How is that much of a business when basically what you’ve got is something that could have been a VsCode plugin.

My local NHS doctor adopted a new platform recently. It took a surprisingly large amount of effort to confirm Palantir weren’t involved before I agreed to login to it. I would have flat out refused to use it if Palantir were involved.
Yeah it’s weird. I always opt out and it seems to make no difference whatsoever.
These guys should try the existing Waymo service in Austin to get an idea of what an actually good ‘robotaxi’ is before tying this junk.

The Online Safety Act exists to protect the safety of the government, not its people.

Videos purchased in Prime Video don’t require a Prime subscription. The subscription only covers the ‘free’ stuff.

Often all the shops round here are sold out of steam gift cards for this reason. It’s sad, I spoke to a store worker about it, they explain to people they are getting scammed but they want the cards anyway.
Yeah pulling nearly 600w through a connector designed for 600w maximum just seems like a terrible idea. Where’s the margin for error?

To enable Saudi Arabia to host 2034 the 2030 World Cup was bizarrely spread across Europe (Spain and Portugal), Africa (Morocco) and 3 matches in South America (Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay).
When hosts for a World Cup are selected the confederations for the previous 2 world cups are excluded, thus North America (from 2026), South America, Europe and Africa were all excluded from even applying. Conveniently leaving the door much wider open from Saudi Arabia than it normally would have been.
