  • Cold air tends to be very dry, which can most definitely irritate your nose and throat (among other body parts). That irritation and drying out can make the thin skin and mucous membranes more vulnerable to attack from bacteria and viruses.

The only really unscientific part of your post is that the cold air itself is not the direct cause of illness.

People with a strong immune system might not see a big difference, but if you are already more susceptible to getting sick, then the link to cold air may be more obvious to you.

  • Having been surprised to see Tool twice in this thread, I think you hit the nail on the head.

Between Maynard’s voice, and the basslines OP mentioned, they definitely have a distinctive sound, and I could see how it could blur together as background / casual listening music. Especially if you listen to mostly mixes ot playlists.

Personally, I almost exclusively listen to music by album, and I think thats where Tool’s songs really become more distinct from each other.

  • I was recently pulling my hair out because a recent update caused a bug in the Windows recovery media creator that prevented the Windows RE from recognizing USB input devices. The few weeks between the faulty update and the fix just happened to coincide with me needing to use it.

WTF are they doing messing with something as basic as the Recovery Environment? And further, in a way that breaks its utility entirely?

  • I think that’s a different question than the point I was trying to make. By all means, educating people as a way to “de-program” and shield them from propaganda is probably the most effective defense, followed by going after the propagandists themselves.

But however you go about trying to fix those systemic issues, it’s important to remember that falling for propaganda isn’t solely an individual failing. Intelligent and powerful people have been attacking education and unbiased news sources (among other things) for decades, precisely with the goal of making people more susceptible to their propaganda. Maybe they should know better, but a working class person, whose main focus is feeding and housing their family, is at a severe disadvantage in an information war.

  • The flip side of that is that propaganda is used because it’s proven to work. Yes, we should encourage everyone to individually think critically and be alert for propaganda. But I don’t think blaming individuals for falling for a concerted effort to hijack their brains is helpful.

I find the argument you’re making uncomfortably close to the ones conservatives use to argue against social safety nets and to avoid discussing systematic reform: namely that people need to take responsibility for their success or failure, and that if someone doesn’t succeed its solely due to individual failings.

In both cases, the idea is that it’s more helpful to address the negative systematic forces than just to blame individuals for falling victim to those forces.

  • I think the issue they are referring to is that Lidarr’s API or interface with the MusicBrainz database has been broken for a few months now, which means it’s impossible to search or add new artists/releases to your Lidarr library.

And as far as I can tell, it’s still down. I have been unable to use Lidarr for anything since about April, except for finding releases that I had already added to my local database.
