First things first. The Tories get a good kick in the teeth. Then we can work on the labour party. Thankfully they are generally more responsive to pressure. The Tories regularly screw them over on that front, but hopefully we can actually get some improvements out of them.
Thankfully we have an election soon. The current polls put the Tories in a VERY bad situation. Hopefully we can send a clear and unequivocal message about things like this.
I would suspect it’s low information voters.
Anyone who pays attention, and isn’t part of his cult, realises how bad trump is. Unfortunately, a lot of voters just don’t pay attention. To them, they seem mud slinging in both directions, and just tune it out.
A felony conviction is a different beast. It’s not just mud slinging. If he’s been convicted, it’s not just smoke, he’s a bad man!
There’s a reason that the right pushes the “both sides” mentality. This just managed to cut past the smoke screen that they threw up. Whether it sticks is another story.

The consensus in the trans community is to let a potential partner know earlier, rather than later. It avoids the situation you’ve encountered. Some men also can react violently, when they find out, so it’s quite a critical dilemma to them.
Unfortunately, not all follow that mindset. They also tend to bust out a lot, and so lead a lot of men on.
It’s a bit like the scumbag dilemma women face. Very few men are scumbags, yet women encounter them regularly when dating. Most men try not to annoy the women they find attractive. They are careful in their approach mentality. This means they only make a few approaches (relatively). They also tend to pair off, and so exit the pool. Scumbags cast a wide net, and don’t hang on to women for long. This means they make a LOT of approaches, and so annoy a vastly disproportionate number of women.
Basically most trans people try to be as polite and careful about it as possible. A few, unfortunately, can destroy the reputation of the rest by being scumbags about it, at least locally.
Ah, but ARE they a tiny minority? They could be anyone, ANYONE, and you would never know, until it was too late!
It’s a prisoner dilemma situation. It doesn’t matter how effective the ads are on an absolute scale, but a relative one. The aim is to get more facetime than your competition. Unfortunately, any company that opts out gets flattened.
Incidentally, this is why tobacco companies loved the ad ban (at least in the UK). It had long reached the point where they couldn’t encourage many people to smoke. They were advertising to cancel out the poaching of customers by other brands.
I believe it’s common to have separate long haul trucks and last leg trucks. If the depot is right next to the motorway/highway, then it provides an obvious place for a handover. It also means drivers can stay in 1 area, and so go home each night.
It will likely be a mix. E.g. you might have 10 trucks on a particular run. You put a driver in the lead truck, as a human-in-the-loop safety. The rest play duckling to the mother duck.
What it will do is lower the skill level needed, and lower the stress. A driver having a nap isn’t a problem anymore. They just need to be able to get involved either if the autopilot has issues and has to stop, or if they need to fill out paperwork at the destination.
I used to think that. Unfortunately, you’ll be proven wrong with time. I really did have a lot of energy, when I was younger. I’m now having to be ever smarter with what I have, just to tread water.
I’m all for countries standing by their commitments, long term. The risks of not disarming Ukraine, particularly back then, is more than worth the cost now.
Appeasement is rarely a good idea, long term, no matter which warmonger it’s aimed at.
At the very least, they should help because they promised to. In 1994 Ukraine gave up its nukes (it had the 3rd largest arsenal). It did this with assurances that the US, UK and Russia would all respect its existing borders.
By not helping Ukraine resist Russia, the US is reneging on that promise (by letting Russia change the borders).

Full generative images would definitely start creating a copying error type problem.
However it’s not quite that simple. An AI system can be used to distort an image. The derivatives force the learning AI to notice different things. This can vastly extend the pool of data to learn from, and so improve the end AI.
Adobe obviously decided that the copying errors were worth the extended datasets.
One of the key thing that LLMs lack is a knowledge layer. In many ways, modern LLMs are hyper advanced predictive text. Don’t get me wrong, what they produce is awesome and can be extremely useful, but it’s still fundamentally limited.
Ultimately, a useful AI will need some level of understanding. It will need to be able to switch between casual chatter, and information delivery. It will need to be able to crosscheck its own conclusions before delivering them. There are groups working on this, but they are quite a bit behind LLMs. When they catch up, and the 2 can be linked/combined then things will get VERY interesting!
Interestingly, the turbo button didn’t speed up your system. Turning it off deliberately slowed it down.
This was needed since some games etc assumed a fixed clock speed. When the clock ran faster, the game ran too fast. Pressing the turbo button to off was one of the first attempts at an emulation of older systems.
Apparently the first passenger helicopter service was in 1950, so I was out by 20 years. It’s a bit of a grey area when they switched from “weapon of war” to “flying taxi”, but it would be somewhere around the 40s.
I still find it insane that the helicopter was invented only 20 years after the car.
We’ve had viable “flying cars” since the 70s. We call them helicopters.
Unfortunately for the futurists, there is a major floor with flying cars, and that’s the failure mode. If a car breaks down, it stops. If 2 cars crash, they come to a stop, generally in the road. If a helicopter breaks down, it will have a very bad time, even in the best case. If 2 helicopters crash, then both will almost certainly plummet to their doom, as well as risking those below them.
Because of this, the regulations are a lot stricter on flying cars. This makes them a lot less practical or economically viable. Any other variant will run into the same limitations.
In almost all cases the point is to keep things reversible. The problem is puberty. Once the hormone cascades hit, it’s far harder to transition. At the same time, fully transitioning is not something many children are equipped to cope with.
Luckily there is a 3rd option. Puberty can be delayed without permanent issues. This gives the patient and doctors time to figure out what to do long term. If they were confused, they stop the drugs, and puberty happens normally. If they truly want to transition, they are in a far better position to change than if they experienced puberty as the “wrong” gender.
By delaying the changes, it allows time for them to process what they want. It also lets them experience living as the other gender, in a reversible manner.
