1·7 months agoI watched this video essay on this topic not too long ago that I really enjoyed (one of the best video essays I’ve seen so far imo) that I think you might find really helpful and insightful as well! If you end up watching it, let me know what you think: https://youtu.be/4d0Q64SQujY

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is "AI and robots taking over" an actual possible outcome of the current race to produce "smart" LLMs ?
2·11 months agoSure but at what energy cost? Compared to a human brain it would be incredibly energy inefficient.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What subscription service would you gladly pay for?
4·1 year agoGoogle used to have something like this where you ‘paid as you went’ by outbidding other advertisers for ad slots on websites. Only worked for google ads, though, and being a google product it was killed eventually…

I haven’t used Ansible but it sounds pretty much like that, basically you write out all the packages you want in a config and it builds the system from that. Very nice in terms of stability and maintainability. I’m very much an amateur so I can’t say for sure but I think the unused package issue would still exist on nix.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•What do you guys do when you want to run unmaintained programs?
2·2 years agoI’m just getting started with nix, if I’m understanding it correctly I think that is kind of what nix package manager does? It keeps packages and their versions separate and doesn’t delete them, so that you can update some programs and their dependencies without breaking other programs that depend on other versions of those same dependencies. https://www.linux.com/news/nix-fixes-dependency-hell-all-linux-distributions/

I think just getting to know someone and judging them based on who they are is a lot more important. Rather than trying to suss out someone’s group affiliations (like if they are part of ICE), why not simply pay attention to how they treat others and the kind of actions they take when faced with challenges? They will naturally show their embodied values and beliefs, and you can then make an informed decision on whether you want to associate with that person or not.
Essentially I think we should be judging people individually. Rather than trying to figure out what kind of person someone is based on their aesthetic choices like stickers or tattoos, see if they treat others with compassion. Everyone makes mistakes and does bad things sometimes, but the people worth sticking around usually recognize when they do, feel remorse, and work on it.
